I'm trying to find local work first, but it is hard for someone without exp. to find local trucking jobs; especially with the way the economy is. If I don't find anything by the end of the summer, I'm probably gonna have to suck it up and do OTR for 6 months to a year.
Anyway, if i do have to do OTR, I was considering Swift. What does the training consist of? How long is it? How much is it?
How long and how much is Swift training?

With no experience, you'd be out the full 6 weeks with your mentor. Training consists of driving with your mentor as if you guys were teamed up. He'd show you what to do and how to do it. Should help you learn how to manage your time and he'll be grading you. There are a few things that you have to do a certain amount of time.

Since I already have my CDL, will I still have to pay that full amount? Will I go through less training versus someone who needs to go to Swift to obtain their CDL? -
If you have your class A cdl, all you need to do is go to orientation then 6 weeks out with a mentor. There is no need to attend anymore school training, unless it has been more than like 3 or 6 months (not sure which) since you graduated and you haven't had a driving job since, in which case you will only need a refresher course.

#### I answered the question that long ago?

I think he was under the impression that he would have to attend Swift's training school before going out with a mentor. Don't forget, some people still need the initial training. Like I said, unless it's been awhile between graduating driving school (which I assume he attended getting his cdl) and getting a driving job...such as searching thru the summer...all he needs is the orientation and 6 weeks out. If he searches thru the summer like he mentioned in his first post, he will most likely need to take a refresher course before getting a job anywhere.

I got the license in March. If I don't find local by the end of the summer, I'm gonna consider OTR. In that case, since it will be 6 months since I got the license, will I have to take a "refresher course"? What does that consist of?
Will I have to pay less than $3,900? -
If you are looking for a local driving job, I would just give up now. They all want a minimum of a year experience. If you need a refresher course, contact the school you attended and tell them. In the case of the school I attended, I think they said if I needed a refresher within 6 months it was free. After that, it was either $400 or so much a day. I don't remember exactly as I didn't need it. Just contact your school and they can provide you with info.
As a general rule, you have to pay your dues with otr before any local company will even look at you. -
You will probably need a refresher course. Swift might run you hrough their school.
My school was at a state tech school.$1400 refresher is shorter and the same amount.
Get up off it an start making calls. Use this place as just another tool. First read my sig line!
