My trainer told me he went to orientation three times before getting through and getting on as a trainee with the company. The first two times were paperwork glitches (forgot his birth certificate or other proof of citizenship the first time and had to go back and clean up an issue with his H6 the second time). That's tenacity. Third time he got through orientation, trained, and has been with the company three years.

During my orientation 40 people started. 30 showed up the second day. 21 finished the third day. Of the 19 people that didn't make it I know that at least three are coming back when they clean up H6 issues. Several failed the drive test or drug test and a couple of them couldn't understand English well enough to follow instructions.

By the way, when they start the drug testing you should not leave orientation until you have taken the drug test. Otherwise it will be noted as a Refusal to Test and will be a negative on your record. For the life of me I can't understand why anyone that wants to get hired would show up to orientation knowing they might have a problem passing the piss test.

I had a call 15 minutes after I submitted my app online and had an orientation date the next day which was 2 weeks before I finished school.

there were 9 in my orientation class, 5 students and 4 experienced drivers. there were 5 of us left by the end of the first day and 4 of us left by the end of the week and I was the only student left after the first day road test. the real background checks, dac scrutiny for the experienced hands, and the physical didn't really happen until we got there. medical issues got 1, dac issues got 1, and the students were just poorly trained and couldn't drive. 2 hit something during their road test.

but I didn't have a job until I was off my trainer's truck and tested out. the 6 weeks on the trainer's truck were still considered part of the interview process. how you handle yourself with customers and the motoring public in general, how you treat the equipment, how safe you are and your overall demeanor behind the wheel and if you looked like someone who would represent the company in a positive manner and not tear stuff up.

but it wasn't until testing out after 6 weeks training that the tester shook my hand and said 'congrats, NOW you have a job if you want it'
