OK lets say you DO NOT need tires but you come across a great/good deal on some and at that time you have the cash to buy them. How long and this is probably stupid to ask can you store a tire before having to use them. Also is there a certian way to store them, ie; flat on a rack ect..

i have been told that as long as they are kept in a dry place, and out of direct sunlight, they can be stored for a couple years

Of course, the problem is having them available when and where you need them.

Be careful where you store them....
Some municipalities have codes that prohibit the storage of tires in residential areas...

    Tires can become fire hazards....

The shelf life is supposedly around 5-6 years as the rubber will deteriorate. I did buy a used Motorcycle that was 10 years old with 2000 miles on it and had been in storage for 8 years with the original tires and they looked new. I checked the date code on the sidewall and they were original. But I was a little squemish putting the the highway with 10 year old tires. Stored indoors, out of the sun and covered, I would think you could keep them for years.

Do not store them flat. Stand them up.

I worked in a tire distribution warehouse through high school and college. We always stored our tires in a stack 8 high or so (as high as 1 person could do usually) Stacked and kept out of direct sunlight they'll be fine. A lot of tire shops use old hiway vans. Moderate temps would be ideal but not absolutely necessary.
