You should try and make the most out of it and not find everything negative about the company. My first company was Werner and I stayed with Werner for 3 yrs.
How long did you stay with your first trucking company?

I stayed at my first trucking company 14 months, went back to a job I hated in a place I hated, went broke, drove for another company back and forth to L.A. with my dog for 2 years until Old Dominion bought the company and stopped my fun. Took some time trying to make a business when the internet was new and with my current company almost 18 years.
I hope someday to buy a cabin in the woods and shoot at trespassers. Just kidding, the cabin doesn't have to be in the woods.91B20H8, Big Don, Pintlehook and 8 others Thank this. -
Right about 4 1/2 years with my first company. I was content, but I make the best of any situation...credit to the Marine Corps for loosening me up. After I left, I was/am truly happy where I am now, wish I did it 2 years sooner, but I do recommend getting the first year in if you can.

I went to a community college for my CDL.
I started driving with a traveling dance competition. I drove all the equipment, merchandise, etc from city to city. Was a great job but the tour only lasts 6 months a year.
I needed a 'real' job....So I went to the company I work at now. 2 1/2 years here. I love it and get treated great.
When I retire I'm going back to the dance competition job. The pay wasn't great but the perks were great.
Basically I drove the truck to the next city. Would help unload and set up. Then get the keys to the rental car for the duration of the stop, usually 4 days. On Sunday I would gas up all the rental cars, help load the truck and then Monday drive to the next city. Food allowance, paid down days, CPM when driving, stayed at hotels once I arrived at the tour location. Worked around a bunch of 20 something year old dancers. Was a great job but the tour only lasts 6 months..
But when I retire... that's my job!!bottomdumpin Thanks this. -

I believe about 7 months...then my boss sold his 30 trucks and trailers to a company I despised. We were all offered jobs with the company that bought us out---I believe 3 people stayed out of the 30.
I LIKED that job, and have no doubt I would have been with them for a long time had they not sold out. -
Coming up on a year in a few weeks. Having the time of our lives. Planning to hang out here until we retire.

Exactly one year. Could have stayed longer, but got tired of teaming and being gone 4 - 6 weeks at a time. Partner stayed there about 4 years and moved on. Talked to him the other day and says he hardly ever gets home after they told him he would be home on the weekends. Shocking lol
rabbiporkchop Thanks this.
