I was thinking the other day how mfgs have a pretty good scam going with these "gliders". They're charging the same price for a chassis now as they were for the complete truck few years ago. And people are happy as the devil to give them the money. What a joke.

Say what you will; gliders are a very cost-effective solution for many people, myself included. If demand goes away the product will go away, it's not like you can wait for the price to drop........it's where it is as a result of the demand. People are fed up with the crap emissions requirements on the new engines.

And what are they charging for the complete new truck today? If those prices had not increased just the same, you may have a point. But.....they have.

You guys are drinking the glider kool aid.

IIRC, we bought a new POS 2008 DPF T660 KW for ~$130,000 CDN. That price was already inflated ~$10K because of the DPF. 2007 was probably worth $120,000. Also bought a repo'd almost new 2001 T2000 with a 6NZ...I think they were also ~$120K new. Both these trucks had engines.

Since 2007 trucks have been going up exponentially due to emission costs (or so we are told). Complete truck is $200K. Why is a glider $145K CDN if it has no emissions? Because people are drinking the kool-aid.

They can shove their gliders I will buy pre-emisions or build my own.

Do as you see fit; we'll do the same. Your numbers are fuzzy; it's no wonder you are confused. If you think for a minute an '01 T2000 is on par with a new W9 glider you are mistaken.

You will "buy pre-emissions"? Such as what exactly?

Show me a pre-emission truck for sale right now that is on par with a new rolling glider with a 6nz installed and I'll buy it today.

And an almost new 2001 T2000? 2016 is quickly approaching, lol. That's 15 years ago.

The one in my sig for example. Paid $35K CDN 18 months ago and it even came with an engine...a rebuilt one no less. Cold day in hell when I pay $110K more for a chassis than I paid for that 359. I wont buy a glider because of principal alone. What incentive do they have to build better engines when they can can sell them without engines for 2007 money......and they don't have to honor a engine warranty!

You guys can think what you like about glider prices. I get that they are the better option than buying a complete truck. That is not really a debate. But the OEM's are gouging with those gliders. They have so totally screwed up the engines that people would rather buy a truck without an engine. HELLO?. The truly sad part is that the consumer seems to REWARD the manufacturer by HAPPILY overpaying for a chassis only. LMFAO. No way a truck without an engine should be $20K more than the same truck with an engine was 10 yrs ago.

It isn't the "truck" manufacturer's fault the engines are the way they are.............it's our lousy federal goobermint's fault. Rushing technology with unrealistic deadlines. Engine warranties are not an engine mfg. issue anyway; not the "truck" mfg. Incidentally my reman N14 came with a fine warranty.

I do not fault you one bit @rank for doing what you do or your choice for riding around in a 359. Your choice; I may think a lot of things about it but am not going to come on here and say how crazy you are for doing it. You might try the same. Or try coming to glider church next Sunday. There's room on the front pew for ya and we'll save some cool aid ;)

We bought that truck in 2001 a few months after it was built. It was ~$120K new. T660's were approx the same in '07. What do those trucks as gliders go for today? If it truly is near $145K CDN like I was told, then that is a rip off IMO.
