i also do the same with intermodal lol. As long as you don't lock up the chassis and make flat spots.
How long do your brakes last?

I buy my columbia with 470k,now i have 807k,and have left 50'/' on my brakes, and when i buy my truck the brakes not was new,i brake more time with my jakes

Last replaced a set of brakes on my truck 6 years ago. Use jake and gears to slow down to almost a stop. Only time brakes are really used is when you are in traffic but you should know how to read a map to avoid the high traffic areas or try to drive thru them off peak times.

My current truck went 500,000 miles before a brake re-line. They actually were at 30% but were falling apart due to "rust jacking".
Do you see the hill in my avatar? I went down that and others like it on a regular basis. Up to 100,000#. -

I also use the trailer breaks as much as possible. Make you wonder why most truck's have a break handle.

I drive a 2014 579 Peterbilt doing intermodal. Rear brakes have 400,000 on them and the drums have some grooves but not to deep. Is 400,000 sound about right for them?

It blows my mind that we can talk and talk about brakes and still other people are talking about breaks and never catch on. Tell me this, what is printed on your handles and controls, breaks or brake? OK, off the podium.
I have all discs on my tractor. Bought with 600k and drove to 800k, pulled all wheels and pads still had half life. I replaced them anyway but they seem to last forever.Sirscrapntruckalot, Cherokee65 and D.Tibbitt Thank this. -
I love the guys that only use 4 out of 10 brakes. You all my heroes.

I have a Wilson step deck with full size drums and and I can’t get more than 50k miles / 6 months on a set of drums/pads, they just wear down so quickly. Would that be considered normal? I run 60% northeast, 40% central US.
it got to that with my new truck, I used to get a year out of them on my old truck (same trailer), but it’s not apples to apples, I had been running more Midwest back than:
Anything I should check on the truck, or does it sound normal?
