Thanks, bro! It is definitely that. Before I began this line of work, I didn't even know this type of work existed. Oddly (or coincidentally) enough, before I started, I used to see mobile scanning trucks (this was before I even knew what mobile scanning trucks were) running back and forth across town for one of the local hospitals where I lived at the time. Little did I know that months later I'd find myself driving and working on one (or in my case, quite a few, since I fill in on routes and also do interim moves—moving scanners from one site to another and to/from the main terminal.) I'll tell you this: working with patients, many of whom are in pretty bad shape considering what they need scanned for, brought out a side of me I didn't know I had, and it's led to some personal growth I didn’t know I needed.
Having said all that, for those of y'all who are seeing this: would you like a dedicated thread that covers this segment in a little more detail? I've been wondering how to go about, or if I should even bother, doing that since this really doesn't fall under local or regional since it can be both (and in my case, OTR) all at the same time. Some routes are more localish, some are more spread out, it just depends on location and modality. We do get company-paid hotels and meal per diem for the nights we stay out, though...quite the nice fringe benefit if you're the type that knows how to stack reward points.
(Also, if any of you experienced drivers live in or near Nashville TN or Buffalo NY and are looking to try something new, send me a message. I know of two route openings, one in each area...)
How long have you been with your current employer?
