Your first driving job is a stepping stone to a better paying job. Think long term, the bigger picture, etc etc.

Sometimes it’s better to take a cash advance than it is to get money from an atm and pay the fees.

I'm not about to give PFJ $4.00 to access their ATM. I'll stop at Walmart if possible, or free cash advances from the company are the next best option. Using your credit cards or ATM cards at POS registers for piddly transactions all week long is a good way to get your account breached. It's only a matter of time before you or the cashier run your card into a skimmer put there by an assistant store manager with grander ambitions.

Cheap hotels and gas stations are the worst places to use credit or debit cards

We don't use credit cards around here. You will find test transactions out the wazoo. Which is a first step to determining if your card is any good. Generally Point of Sale for gasoline etc.

You decide how much you need for 7 days or until next pay check. Get that one time. Leave the rest alone. Don't borrow anything from comcheck, that will make you negative paychecks before you know it.

36K is not too bad, but it's not too good either. It's close to what we made in our time. And back in the early 90's

With that said, the lesson is that trucking OTR pay has not moved much. In fact it's probably worsened against inflation etc.

36k net is like 50k gross if you are counting decent insurances.. Repaying for school.. and filing single.

9k miles a month dry van no touch OTR would work out to just under 40k at high 30's avg cpm.

People laughed in my face a year ago when I told them 50k gross first year was a done deal and it was easy to reach so what are you complaining about exactly? 36k in your pocket is solid first year pay in this industry!

If your doing a G a week gross right out of the gate you have it pretty good. It may seem like forever but a year will go by in the blink of an eye. Doors will open for you just don't ding up your record and don't job hop

    cleanbyrd and CK73 Thank this.

$1200 gross was an OK week for me the first year OTR and that was at .37 CPM. If you are not getting close to that at a higher CPM talk to someone at your company about ways to improve your running.

    cleanbyrd Thanks this.
