How long to let truck shut off with laptop

I had a 3 battery volvo and it was a while, most I have done was 5hrs. In my car with a small diehard, I have run it for 4_ hrs also.

If it has ICON or the VOLVO idle system, you can set it to start when batteries low.

Also if you run a reefer, you can use the reefer to charge the truck with a set of 20ft cables.

The technical answer would be look at your laptop spec and see the draw is. Check amp hour rating of the batteries divide by 2 and do a little figuring.

Typical draw is 90 to 100 watts for a laptop ac adapter. Watts divided by volts = amps (approximately). So roughly 8 amp draw. 1 250 amp hour battery divided by 2 for safety, so 125 divided by 8 = 15.6 hours. This is to reach 50% discharge. With 6 batteries 93.75 hours. This assumes no other loads; fully charged batteries in good shape and reasonable temperature. Lead acid battery discharge capacity is affected by temp. But is likely way longer than you will likely sit.

 

Once my bat gets to a certain level, everything shuts off so I still have enough charge to start it. I have left mine on all weekend and still was able to start it.

 

I majored in biochem, you just have to have a piled high and deep (phD) to do what I wanted.

 

Your inverter will scream at you (low input level) before the truck batts go out.
