Hi All, I'm starting road training this week. I think I hit the road thurday or friday. How long were you out on the first trip during training. I know all companies are different- just looking for answers from several different people. My guess would be 2-3 weeks at a time? Or am I way off? I have heard of a couple that keep you out longer- but I am just talking about the very first trip. Thanks!
How long were you out your first time during training?

It really depends on what company you are going with, and they typically let you know up front how long you will be out with your trainer and whether it will be continuous or regulare home time. The company I started with was pretty good about getting you home every weekend, but I was only there for 2 weeks.

Hear one thang in up doing another! I read some post hear that the training can last as long as 30 days to 15 months. It depend on the companies. But home time in this economy is up in the air. I've read that 2 weeks out 2 days off. It sometime does not in up that way.As in 3 to 4 weeks out before home time. It also depends on where you call home. As in if they get a load going that way. But really need to ask before you on the road tp be sure you have enough money to eat, clothes, jackets, two pair of shoe, rain suit. ect. You see why it would be important to ask.. Hope I helped in some way.

First trip, four days. Like mentioned, all companies are different. If the company hasn't given you an expectation you may want to give them a call and ask.

I have to laugh here!
When I was in the Army my last duty station was at Ft. Gordon GA and I was Signal Corps. There was nothing to do but keep getting more vehicles put on my drivers license. I finally got everything the Army had including the big AM General tri axles and drop beds and flats.
When I got out in 1975 I screwed around for a month or two and was talking to a friend of mine who was an O/O and he told me to pack a bag and ride with him for a week and if I liked it he would sign the state form that said I had driven whatever the miles were and I could get my chauffeurs license so I could drive. I had that class "c" license and away I went! I applied to a company close to home and the owner asked me what kind of experience I had I told him nothing but military stuff including the General.
He said ok, and handed me the keys to an old Trans Star Cabover hooked to a flatbed and told me to get in start it up drive out the gate go to so and so and then if I made it back in at least one piece I had the job!
I made it back even with most of the transmission intact and he was impressed enough that he gave me another set of keys, BOL, a handful of white pills, a couple of log books and a map book and the phone number to call tomorrow.
Well I knew what to do with everything but the logbook! I went back in and asked him and he just turned it over and showed me the diagram on the back cover and said "just try not to log over 10 hours of driving time" and went back to work!
I managed to deliver the next day and got my next load and THAT was MY training time! 3 million miles later I look back fondly on old Mr Gamandonis! He kept me running in the North Ga mountains and the surrounding areas for 7 years till he died and his wife sold everything on the lot and the lot also and moved back to Greece! -
I guess I will find out tomorrow when I start orientation. I am packed per the packing for students thread (thanks again for that Rollover the Original!). I have enough clothes for 1-2 weeks and enough little toiletries and things for about a month I think. Should be interesting. I've never been out of state by myself before!
