The Galaxy 959 Peaked will draw less than 7 amps.
Bighig Thanks this. -
Even you don't ned it; don't go smaller than #14 wire. Smaller wires are too easily damaged. 14 will carry 15 amp. 12 wire will carry 20 amps.

good call on the fuse close to the radio on a battery to radio power wire run. many people forget or dont even think about this when running an additional power wire. and for thoes who are wondering, the reason being, what if something rubs the insulation off the wire by the battery and it grounds out? you will probably have a fire all the way to the radio. the fuse should always go closest to the power source.

Guess YOU didn't read the COMPLETE question.

What kind of truck???? Does it have the power and ground poles???? If so then they work pretty good actually.
If you are going for a perm setup then going directly to the battery is your best option. Personally running 8 guage wire to the battery. I removed the stock wires from the power points in the truck and ran the 8 guage to the power points. It makes it easier to pull the radio or swap radios if needed.
You can go to the cig lighter but you are already running alot off of it as it is and you might start popping the fuses.
But if memory serves me correct, the factory installed a fuse in the pigtail that plugs into the radio. I believe it is less then a 10 amp fuse. Probly more likely a 4 amp fuse. Meaning that the Galaxy 959 does nto really draw alot of amperage since the fuse is usually rated for about twice what the radio actually draws.Bighig Thanks this. -
He asked how many amps does the radio draw. It draws less than 3 amps stock. With a peak job it's about 5 amps. So why would he be dumb enough to use a 10 amp fuse? Why would run the risk of damage to the radio. The 10 amp could allow more current than needed. And frying the radio. Also power poles have nothing to do with his radio amps. And most Drivers don't need them. I do run Power Poles on all of my Amateur gear. For all who don't know they are just a quick dis-connect system for power.

It is the act of moving from one truck to another constantly. This means it is alot of work to make a perm setup such as running directly to the batteries.
One day you will be in one truck and the next day you will be in a different truck and so on and so forth.
Another thing that comes into play when slip seating is antenna setups. What works good in one truck, won't work so well in another. This is why alot of drivers run antennas such as Francis 4 or 5 ft antennas and they use the specific length of coax listed on the package. -
So what your saying is that if his radio runs at a max of 5 amps that the correct amp fuse to use would be 5?Bighig Thanks this.
