I had 3 DUI`s all over 20 years ago before the ripe old age of 23. I`ve had a clean record ever since. Would it be possible to obtain a CDL and actually get hired? Any input would be appreciated.

Usually most reputable companies won't let you any. I'm not sure about the time limit, but I think some will allow with seven to ten years past.

I have a friend who is one of the most skilled drivers I know. He had two DUI's in a 3 year span, not in a truck though. He lost his drivers liscense for awhile, I think a year. He tried putting a driver in the truck and that didn't work out. He wound up having to sell the truck. He recently got his CDL back but is not in a position to buy another truck right now. He said he spoke to his agent and he can get insurance through them again. He decided to get a driving job in the meantime and has no luck getting hired. His DUI's were only a couple of years ago. I think since you said 20+ years ago you might be OK since there has not been a problem since.

20 years ago? Yes, you can get a CDL and get hired. CR England will hire anyone. Not to bad mouth you, but start calling and be upfront and honest.

The Economy and lack of freight might be the biggest challenge, but I am sure persistence will pay off.

Because they are over 20 years ago, see if you can get them removed from your record. You won't be able to do that once you get your CDL, so do it first.

In California it was a simple process. It involved a phone call to DMV, and then waiting a few weeks.

I really question the need to have these removed from a twenty year old record. I've never seen a check go back that far. I don't think the applications that I have seen ask you that far back. If I am wrong, and the application asks "Have you EVER received a DUI" or something similar to this, then tell the truth about it.

I just can't imagine that DUIs back that far will matter, as long as you haven't had problems since then.

    disclaimer:
If you spent the last twenty years in the pen, and THAT is why you have on DUI's since then, that could slightly alter my opinion!

I thought on Schneiders website it said that you couldn`t have more than 2 . I assumed that meant forever. I could be wrong. No prison time here Big Don, just a soon to be out of work autoworker mulling the buyout.
