Hello drivers, I am now pulling fully loaded trailer. My flatbed is 48' long, I just got my final load on, and it's about 1 ft passed on the front of my trailer.. Can D.O.T fine me for this? I remember when I was helping my father hauling cars in the past ,you were allowed to pass up to 4ft from the tail with a red flag. I appreciate it for any kind if information.
Thanks
Johnny
How many feet can your load pass your front/ rear of the trailer

Do not quote me on frontal overhang but I do not believe there is a law stating how far you can overhang on the front. I've seen them put 60ft I beams on trailers overhanging the front and back. As long as it's not interfering with your air lines and light chord I think you should be fine driver.Last edited: Aug 8, 2013
keepontrucking81 Thanks this. -
if you do this you must have a headache rack on you tractor..

I dont have one yet hopefully soon. So this can be a problem. I just past the scales in GA. They let me pass, heading to Chicago, ILL. Hopefully no set backs.
Thanks

They are not intended to be chain racks, They work good for storage but the purpose of a Headache rack is to save your life if something comes forward off the trailer, the back of your cab has very little structure to it.379exhd, macavoy and keepontrucking81 Thank this.

Could he run a couple chains x'd across the front to keep if from moving forward and be legal?

Thats what I did. I seen many drivers do that. I x'd mine loads many times. Last night at the truck stop, I seen this driver parked. He had his load x'd over his rolled tarps against 6" black pipes. He did a really NICE job.

SC only allows 2 FT hang on ft of trailer

So basically it doesn't apply in every state....
