Thx, I know it's a dumb question but finally get to check it engine cold since I'm in a hotel for 34. Bosselman is next door and if I needed more than 2 I wouldve gone through their lane to top it off. I'll grab a couple gallons and try it and keep an extra. Got about 10k to go till pm service....

You can run a truck pretty low on oil and still be OK. Some people wouldn't even bother with adding 1 gallon. Me, I was pretty picky about it. And no, it's not a dumb question.

Only been with this company I drive for now for a couple months and idle the Sh@t outta the trk. They don't care which is good but an Apu was nice to have at my previous company cause I could give the trk a break and be able to add coolant and check oil properly. I'm picky about it too, that's why pti's are done. I'm trekking through three sisters in Wyoming into Utah then across NV to Donner. Gonna be revving high and Jaking like a mofo. Engines gonna do some work!

Engine oil is a coolant too. So, yeah you can run it low, and be ok on the lubricant side,. But you wouldn't run a gallon low in the radiator, would you?
-
Nope. Good point, I'll add some oil to the coolant
scottied67, Skate-Board and dngrous_dime Thank this. -
In a car engine the "Add" line is at 1 quart....in a truck the "Add" line is at 1 gallon.
In the past I have ran some real junk "oil eaters", and I remember having to add 2, and some times 3 gallons of oil every other day---and the engine kept on a runin'. Of course the oil wasn't $24.00 a gallon back then; so the boss just put up with it.Skate-Board Thanks this. -
