The title pretty much said it all How many of you have owned and operated more than one truck they owned at one time?
What was the outcome and is the effort worth the reward for say a two or three truck operation?
What are the advantages and pitfalls?

Major pitfall is finding good reliable drivers and being able to offord to pay them decent. I run into the big problem of not forcing my drivers to be gone all week or more. I pay good so they stay but I can't force guys to be gone longer than I personally would like to be out. More money comes in with 3 trucks than 1 but net only puts a little into your pocket.

Advantages: more income, more availability for customers, more desirable to customers, the eventual sitting on your butt doing nothing, errr I mean to work harder and longer than you ever have.
disadvantages: idiot employees, higher insurance, calls at all hours of the day or night, trying to find the right guy for your truck, trying to find anyone! for your truck that doesn't have ten dui's and 3 charges of reckless driving, when its not moving not only are you loosing money you either are working on it or paying someone else to do it. Oh and any of these could happen at any time even Christmas.

    is it worth it? Absolutely

I had 4 drivers and my exwife and myself all of them women. I made more money with fewer break downs and problems then I did when I had all men. my over head went down 35% with all women. But I did get some funny calls in the middle of the night.

Women tend to be better drivers, follow the rules, more aware not only of what's around them but of what they're driving. And easier on the truck, as long as they don't see any yard sales they'll do great lol.

i don't know your business, but this 5 cents about my (car hauler): i was start from this business 7 years ago, so, past 4 years driving by self i was sure i can grow up and get 2 trucks more:glasses2: but past another 2 years i'm lost everything and drivers kill my business ( safety record:biggrin_2553:, insurance so height :biggrin_2555:). and the end: i still drive my truck by self. Its not the problem to buy truck, its problem to find good drivers.

With only a few trucks one bad driver getting an OOS can really harm your safety record .

My one venture into this, with probably the best possible person anyone could ask for in a driver, wasn't profitable enough to be worth the extra cost and work burden on me. It comes down to no hired driver will ever be as vigilant about your property and business like yourself. Some may come close, but at the end of the day all they have to do is walk away.

Here's a better idea. When you think about doing this next time, just go in the truck stop and find the biggest guy in there and pay him $500 to kick you in the balls as hard as he can. You'll be able to try out hiring a driver, just without all that extended risk and waiting for it. Don't forget to get a receipt. It's tax deductible.
