I know that no more than 11 is the rule. My question is that if you are a company driver, not O/O, does the company decide how long you drive or is it up to you? does it all depend on how far the load has to go. Starting my driving career soon and just trying to figure some things out. Thanks.

It depends on you. You being the driver have to make the determination as to how you drive based on several factors.......such as
    1. how do you feel? Are you tired etc....
    2. How far does the load have to go?
    3. When does the load have to be delivered?
    4. How many hours do you have available?
etc.... the company doesnt tell you how to drive just where to drive.
Now if you have a high risk load ( high value, etc..) you may have to run a certain number of miles before you can stop, but generally before you pick them up you have to have full hours, full fuel tanks etc....

    Hope that helps

Of course if you only run 4 to 5 hours per day then they may find a more dedicated driver. I try to run as close to 11 hours as I can each day. 9.5 to 11 till I reset each weekend. This week, some personal issues have slowed me down, so i called my boss and explained what this problem is and he understands and is working with me. 8 hours per day is about all i can take this week.

I tried to average 10 a day, but there are reasons to drive less and sometimes you have to do full 11 to make the load. then there are times you need to back off to rest up or even get a parking spot for the night. you have to make the call.

yup exactly I use to try and run 9 hours a day that way I would usually end up with close to 7 hour for the 8th day but every load is different that's what is so much fun about trucking you never know what ya get until ya get it!!!!
