Ok guys I've got a cdl a permit and can probably get my license on my own through a friend that has a few trucks or I could go to school my question is all the companies want 10yr job history and until recently I had a job where I worked the last 6 yrs at until they closed down. I've had 5 jobs since then trying to find where I fit in and make decent money. I've been misled a lot by the last 3 promising more money and more hours. I'm a mechanic currently and work by the book time per job not by the hours. I've always wanted to drive a truck just never had the chance. How many jobs is too many for a company?

the starter co wont really care about how many
but they want a job history with no gaps
so if you were unemployed 5/15-6/30 put that in
new drivers only need a 3 year history
current CDL drivers need 10 year history

Smaller companies won't take the chance because of the cost associated with hiring a new employee for them to quit soon afterwards if they see a job hopping trend. Mega fleets probably don't care.

Good companies care...alot....but in the world we live in the companies that you can spend an entire career at are hard to come by anymore. Just starting out I would say to a driver look around at perspective employers , then apply to the ones that have employees/drivers that have 10 or more years in......folks don't hang around for that long or longer for their health. Even if they say you must have x amount of experience , apply any way....No is painless....and you just might get lucky and get hired. Worth the gamble anyhow.

If you don't go to an accredited school of won't matter with most companies. Most won't touch you because of insurance.

Gaps in job history aren't really much of an issue if you are honest and everything else like your driving record and criminal record are clean. Friend of mine quit his factory job, took two years off, and put that down on his app that he voluntarily left the workforce for two years to take time off. He got pre hires from just about every one he applied to when he got done with school, these were for starter type otr jobs btw, but I don't really know if even applied for any local jobs.

Do you know if he had to supply a notarized letter from friends/family verifying what he did over that 2 year period?
