Lets find out what the average is for completeing one full year just starting their carreer.

You can be self taught, from a school or a company sponsered training. It does not matter if this is your first year "bew driver" or a returning trainee make a choice in the poll.

If you did not make it, please be specific and let us know why? Crash, Time at home, bad company, bad trainer, just was not for you in the long run, not enough money, etc.

    Thanx

West Way Express in Denver CO was my first. They took me right out of trucker school. I was Paired with a great trainer for 3 weeks and after that
I ran for a year with them before I found a local gig that paid much better.
The company was folded soon after that. I still have many fond memories of my rookie year.

i have started my 19th year this past february.
when i was in trucking school, my instructor said something to the effect that by the time most of that class hit 10 years from graduation, the number of us still on the roads would be about 4 out of the class of 30.....

i don't know how true that is as i don't care to know about any former student i attended training with. we each live our own lives. whether or not any of them are still driving doesn't concern me. afterall, its me that has to pay MY bills..........

but, i would suspect some truth in what that instructor said. just the numbers would need to be re-counted each year..............

Come on Pro Driver if you were to run into one of your buddies from trucking school, I'm sure you wouldn't mind hearing how his or her trucking careers been going, quit trying to play hardball, deep down you care.

    uh..........no i don't..........

in fact i have left several trucking jobs over the years, and all those other drivers were just drivers, no friends of mine.

i don't drive to make friends, i drive to make money. my "regular friends" aren't drivers.............those are the ones i talk with daily.

the others.............either former students or drivers, can kiss my butt.

by the way, for a very short time back in 1999, i was a part-time driving instructor..........and i don't give a flip as to which of my students are still driving or not.........

i think about myself and MY bills.............don't care about anyone else.....don't need to...........

Man been reading all thease post and I tell you this makes me a little nervous.:biggrin_25513: I have just finished schooling with CRST. I dont have a partner and am kinda worried about it.

I truely dont care who I drive with as long as they are more capable than I . thease stories of guys going out with someone who has only had a few mos training scares the h*** out of me. I have been accross the us in the most adverse wheather. Blizzards and all! I dont need some hot rod thinking he can just slide the rig into some position or just shoot by that guy on the shoulder.

I do have a family and love them very much , I need to make it home. ? does anyone truely know how CRST matches up their CO dirvers to newly Graduated students? LoneEagle

I started driving for Roehl about nine years ago. They have their own cdl school. From what I know I am the only left out of a class of 10. I am now a trainer and almost always have a student to train. Roehl supposedly has one of the higher retention rates out there and a lot of guys that jump to another because they hear the grass greener come back. But, from what I hear 90% do not make it a year. They either jump to another company after getting a little experience, get out of trucking completely, or get fired for something. I tell my students that trucking is a pretty easy job but a hard lifestyle.

I just finished school and am starting the road training. Started with a class of 20 and finished with 12.

People dropping out or being asked to leave. Family situations, losing rental apartment at home, family medical issues. Cannot add and subtract. Poor backing or driving skills, etc.
Through the grape vine the word is 25% make it for a full year incident free.

They say, Come back when you have a CDL and we can give you another try or..................Run through the school again.

Only the strong survive and the pressure and attrition is heavy. It is a steep price to pay, but on the flip-side you only want the best driving for you anyway, right?

When I started Schneider Training there was 59 in my class. By graduation there were 23 left. By the time they finished OTR training, there were only 15 and by the time I left at 3 months there were only 5.

Don't know if this is typical, but this was my class.

Most that finished school and left during the OTR training or just after went to other companies or local jobs. Two of my classmates are driving dump trucks and one is driving a straight truck doing deliveries for building materials.
