Well, if you had been following all along and actually read what I wrote, I stated that it would be the best starting point to do oil changes, and then it can be adjusted as the oil samples suggest. Oh, but oh no, you didn't take the time to read those posts. You just assume that I stated that the OEM recommended drain interval is written in stone and must be adhered to like it was some sort of government regulation. I still stand by the comment that the OEM recommended oil change is a good starting point, but that since each motor and how it is used is different, adjust the drain interval accordingly.
And that 3.5% soot level, what is the allowable soot level as prescribed by Cummins? Did you bother to research thru the Cummins Lubrication Manual to find what the limits are for wear metals and soot? Probably not. I have no clue what the allowable soot level is for the ISX, but I would sure be looking. With any motor I have, I also download and have readily available the lubrication manual from the OEM on my laptop and can look up anything I am unsure of. They are free downloads.
I would also suggest that if a bypass filter is used and one is getting 3.5% soot, they might consider getting another bypass filter, because that one sure isn't doing a very good job.
How many miles do you run before you change your oil?
