I'm with ya chicken. I've been in the trucking industry for 34 plus years. 30 of those years were driving OTR. Did a couple years of dispatching/Ops and was a Director of Training at a TT school for another couple of years.
Never kept count of my miles but I figure I've got to have somewhere around 3 million, if not more.
Back in the 70's, the standard procedure for a truck driver was to get multiple licences. Living in the Washington, DC area, I obtained a DC, VA and MD licence and being a young cowboy, I was a speed demon. I was always getting a speeding ticket and would present the DC or VA licence to the friendly trooper approaching my rig. Always kept my MD licence clean. Being able to obtain multiple licences ended in the early 90's when they instituted the CDL (a good thing).
I've never been in an at fault accident. Had a car or two slam into the side of my trailer when making a turn, with no serious injuries to the other impatient drivers. Lost my brakes twice in my life time going down some serious mountains where the only thing that saved me was God himself.
I've aged and matured a bit and the "Cowboy" left me a long time ago. I'll push it a bit on the Interstates but on any other road, I do the speed limit. I've had 1 speeding ticket in the last 14 years. Had a brain lapse that day. I was tired as all hell and day dreaming about hitting the lottery, looked in my side mirror and saw blue lights flashing, lol.
Good luck to today's competent drivers. It's a whole different world on the highway these days with TT schools and the large trucking companies putting unqualified drivers behind the wheel of these behemoths, making the roads more dangerous than ever before, all in the name of "profit margin" and cheap labor. It'll only get worse when they let the Mexican trucking firms haul freight, unrestricted through out the lower 48 but that's another subject for another thread.
    Stay safe everybody.

1 million + From 1987- 2005. I left the trucking industry in May of 2005 for another occupation but I miss being on the road sometimes.

I quit counting back in 1970's, but my butt is telling me it's TOO MANY...!
Now days we're doing Heavy Haul and 40K in a year is more than I want to do. I'm not retired, just real tired.....!

I can't say that, I have some 'Dings' on my driving record!

No CHARGEABLE accidents (got backed into while parked in a parking lot in Macon, GA./ Got rear ended at a stop light in Minneapolis, MN.)

Clean driving record for 5 years until I got an overweight in PA. and a log book ticket in IN. all in the last 6 months...

I have about 1.5 million since I started working for commercial carriers outside the family owned business.
Most of that was heavy equipment, heavy/over sized loads that didn't give you a bunch of miles, but TONS OF HEADACHES!

Family is the hardest job you will ever have!
You have to do twice as much to get half the pay and a third of the credit!

    Dave 1960 Thanks this.

Yeppers, ONE MILLION BUTT busting miles... And I have been off the road sense 2009 and have not looked back. Never again.. Far to many Billy Big Riggers out there that put the word safety to shame. All you million milers know just what I am meaning. #### near
got run over in a truck stop more than once. Urine jugs in the lots. Filthy truck stops and nutty fools on the CB at the worst possible time. Had my mirrors smashed in the middle of the night more than once. Had my trailer nailed a time or two as well. Then throw in a few hundred million 4 wheelers on the cell phone. And the nasty diet at the
truck stop dinners. Plus being over charged for every thing in the C store. Forget it...

    Dave 1960 Thanks this.
