What he said. Same rate loaded or empty for all dispatched miles.

At Swift company drivers are paid their base rate for empty miles, whether deadhead or simply empty.
If we are under dispatch we get paid for the miles, and I think that is pretty standard for company drivers in most companies.

We have a sliding rate for loaded miles.
Any load that is under 500 miles is paid at a progressively higher rate, in 100 mile increments.
Empty miles are always at the lowest scale for that driver.

If you have to 'deadhead' 90 miles for a home time, that won't be paid.
And you would be paid for the empty miles from your last delivery point when you come back on duty. That could work to your advantage, or not.

We bobtail drivers to Paragould, AR to pick up new trailers at the Utility plant and they always find them loads to come back so it's not a total bust.

Cheaper to deadhead our guys to pick them up than to pay someone to deliver it to El Paso. :)

I'm paid a percentage, so deadhead miles don't pay. Whenever I haul for oilfield the rates are great. The problem is trying to snag SOMETHING for backhaul revenue that makes sense.

Right now I'm deadheading from Casper to Oklahoma City, a tad over a day's driving unpaid. I made the decision to deadhead and get back "on the board" for high revenue freight in OKC rather than wait until Monday morning for a very low revenue load that still requires deadhead miles after it. It's far better to boogie in this situation. The goal is maximizing truck revenue.

I'm paid off the odometer or GPS mileage the same loaded and empty.
They do not care how I run or which route I decide to take..
50% of my miles are empty.

I just dead headed 635 wiles picked up a load and drove 725 miles to deliver the load. I got paid for 1360 the same 48 cents per mile.
