It would be a good idea to buy a 32nds gauge and routinely check your tire tread depth and brake pad thickness.
-

For a big box carrier driver who routinely goes to company terminals and has that checked for them, perhaps not so much. But, otherwise, yeah, it would be a good idea. Do you even know what the minimum requirements are for tread depth and brake pad thickness? If you pick up a trailer at a customer, will you know if you'll need to get it to a tire shop so you won't be put OOS?

tangerineGT and Ebola Guy Thank this.

4/32 steers
2/32 all others (company tells us any under 4 right it up )
brake shoes no less then a 1/4 ( center of shoe )
adjusters no more then 3/4 inch of play
But hell why know that , I just put fuel in and go, plus I have someone do it for me . -
Don't know if you were serious with your last line or not, but you pretty much nailed the steering wheel holder mentality right on the head with that one.
-
I really never get into a terminal , hate those places , so yea I do look them over , just not every morning
because if yesterday I had a full brake shoe , unless something went terribly wrong , and I would see smoke or fire . That shoe is gonna be there in 10 hrs .
Steering wheel holder . Lmfao yup!!!!! -
Well, if you have 25/32nds on a tire, you're not going to suddenly lose it (unless you have a cap failure). It's not something you'd need to check every day. Now, we did have one driver who managed to wear a set down... he swore up and down it was axle alignment... his two tires on the right side of his #2 axle...
He claimed axle alignment, I figured he got into some ice or a soft spot and spun the hell out of them, so we didn't send it out for a three axle alignment, although we let him get the impression that we did. Oddly enough, he was all giddy about a month later, because he didn't have a problem with his tires wearing down.
Yeah. -
He must have really been stuck and didn't want to tell anyone he needed pulled out . Hahaha
