I am a coffee a person, and I do get up early and sit in my truck sipping coffee and waking up.. and I rarely see a driver doing a full trip.. in fact I see more drivers on the side of the road with their flashers on and down then I do drivers doing pre trips...
Now, I dont do my pretrip by the book... I get up and go inside to get my coffee.. when I return to my truck as I approach kt I am looking for sighs of leaks, truck kr trailer leaning and such.. then I get in and drink my coffee.. after coffee I will get out and do a walk around.. I do check my tire pressure and over all condition of the tires.. I get in and start it up and let it warm up.. then off to tne fuel island I go, and that is wnere I will open tne hood and do a more thorough pre trip and wash my windows... I also do checks along the way.. and after I am unhooked and bob tail I will cneck some things out
how many of you do it every morning ?

Every morning. Takes me 15 mins. Rather do it then to get a ticket or kill someone.

I know what you mean though I don't care for trashing around truck stops, fuel and food was all I used them for really. Last time I slept at one was belle foushe when I got laid over. Back in November. And I really don't feel like losing the hood on my truck because some crack pot cut the corner to close my truck got hit about a year ago at shoemakers west in Lincoln, scraped up the fender and bent a fender guard wasn't that bad really nothing a little lead and touch up paint couldn't fix but it still pissed me off. Least the ####### could've done was left a note and said call me I'll cover the damages I would've told him hell don't even worry about it. Nope didn't even get that. The manager apologizied for itore times than I can count wasn't his fault, but that's the world we live in.
As for the pretrips I do a half assed PTI, I check my oil, thump my tires look at my shoes basically just a walk around, yea I check my lights but other than that I don't bother to crawl under and check my slacks, the only other thing do is check my brakes and listen for a leaking chamber and watch for air leaka. My slacks are shot to the point where theyre manual slacks anyway so I adjust them when when I get to the sale barn. I know my truck, I'm the only one who drives it, now if somebody else drove it as well I'd be doing my inspections or I was driving someone else's truck is be more thorough but that's not the case.tangerineGT Thanks this. -
Yea I bet a -10 degree load would tend to piss some people off in warm weather when they are trying to enjoy some fresh air , thats the problem tho courtesy went out the window , when I park in a truck stop , if there . Is a group of spaces that are empty all to gether , yup I park there . Because I figure if you park next ro me , sorry , but I tried to stay away , in rest areas normally I am that ### hole Parked on the ramp because I dont want to wake someone else up rolling in at 2 am. But thats just me.
I sure could see fight about a reefer getting shut off , last night , well actually a few hrs ago I was taking a cat nap , mine shut off and because you said that earlier . First thing I did was got up and looked for the green light out the window . Hahahahaha -
So , this brings me to a pretty interesting point here .
I see a lot of people , yup do it by the book , then oh tell me how you can get a truck fixed while your in it , in a shop off duty ?
There is a real big technicality there .... if you are in front of that sleeper you should be on duty , so you pull into a shop ok .
here goes , sitting at a TA waiting on a phone call to pull into the shop ( 3,4 hrs go by )
ring , ring you now get into the seat drive into the shop , wait drive out of shop , still off duty . Hmmmmm
Now I see some points about saving your life , but if I shut my truck off dont lose air for 10 hrs ( except for maybe a few lbs ) that tells me there is nothing leaking , am I right ? I probably look at air pressure more then anything , oh and I rarely ever pull the trailer supply valve , so if there is a leak its gonna be found that way to .
Now I am not trying to hit any sensitive spots , but just a thought . -
But what about the "going from off duty and driving it out of the shop"? If you want, log yourself on duty from the moment you receive the phone call or when you sign the paperwork and change it as you see fit from then on. -
tangerineGT Thanks this.

I am not gonna use up my time while the tire kicker at the TA takes 5 smoke breaks in between pulling me in the shop til the time the new tire is on... hell no -
Now that I have flow through caps on my steer valve stems my air pressure check takes 3 minutes tops.

I quit driving in January, but I did pre-trips every morning for the year that I drove.
