As a long time driver, I can honestly tell you that loads magically appear at a shipper every day. Trucks magically appear at a receiver, every day.
This is a complete freak of nature, and the world's leading scientist have been unable to explain this phenomena for years.
Anyone have a clue why 20 trucks would show up at a business ALL with a 7am appointment time, that only has one dock, and 2 guys that spend more time goofing off than they do actually unloading said trucks ??
Businesses the world over need your help...today.
How many of you drivers have a similar past?

The guys working on the dock have Nothing to do with telling 20 trucks to show up at 7 am. Thats management! I agree with you 100% on the 2 guys play grab ### all day instead on unloading trucks.
I work on in Outbound/Shipping side of the DC. I don't know how most DC/Plants do things but where I work the guys that work on Inbound/Receiving side are the tenured guys that have been working here 15 + years, and they are some of the laziest people I have ever seen in my life.
We have 26 doors and a Receiving crew of 16 and they still can't keep up with the trucks. At times our yard is full 20-30 full trailers waiting to be Unloaded, not counting the 26 at the doors. But they don't make the drivers sit around for days to unload, they just drop their trailers and go.

In my previous business I had warehouse space dedicated to incoming orders, just to enable the drivers to get in and out on time. We also had areas dedicated to outbound shipping, the trucking company did not get called till the staging was complete and ready to load.
It was simple on outbound loads, the driver would be shown where the load was staged so he could count the boxes if he choose to.
The same with incoming loads my guys would unload the trailer or at least the pieces coming to me into the staging area, the driver could verify what was delivered .
once the loads were verified both direction, then the paperwork got signed and dated by all, never had bills time stamped saw no reason for it.
On average trucks were in and out in 2 hours, usually faster.
It just is not that hard to organize the warehousing. Granted mine had to do with things needing service or repair and had to be out and on its way back to the customer in 48 hours per contracts with manufacture's. But I would think general warehousing would even be simpler.
I also had a drivers room with 2/ private restrooms including showers but they had to have there own towels. TV area , microwave, and free farmers brothers coffee. I found in the long run that the convenience's paid off by getting cooperation from the drivers in return. Offering a driver a shower and coffee while we get that unloaded. -
But its a management problem to keep these guys working. Maybe time to bring in a temp agency that has to perform to come back tomorrow.
Change the pay from hourly to paid by the trailer. Or maybe just some supervision that knows how to handle employee's -
Our management team is made up of Fresh college graduates on salary. They don't even know how many pallets fit on a truck. They constantly try to put 26 pallets on a truck, while you can only fit 24 if you T up the whole truck (48ft Trailers).
If it were up to me I'd get rid of the whole receiving crew and bring in a whole new crew of guys that are grateful to have a job, I HATE my job with a passion but I still give 110% everyday. We can't have Temps in the building because of the type of freight we move (medical supplies and Prescription Drugs) 90% of our freight goes out on our own private fleet (day cabs) all freight is ordered by 7:30pm and has to be at the hospitals the next morning. We also have a few same day delivery customers they can order until 6:30pm and the Truck HAS to be out by 7pm no excuses.
I like that Idea of paying by the trailer but this company would never go for it, If it makes sense this company WILL NOT do it.
It's amazing a company this stupid and run by such Idiots is the Largest Medical Supply Company in the world, and employs millions of people. Just this DC I work did $89,000,000 in sales for 2009
