How many of you have gotten jobs by walking in a resume?

Maybe, but if you wanted charity, go to a church, a buisness is there to make money

 

Can anybody list a trucking company with more than 100 trucks that even accept paper applications? Honestly, I know of none!

 

I used to but now it is done all online through a service. The problem is this crap with the fmcsa is getting stupid, the purpose for the 10 years back was to prevent duplicate/suspended license issues and now there are more layers being added.

 

It's that same old song and dance with regard to bureaucracy! The agency makes the rules, same agency interprets the same rules. The FMCSA is only about safety in name only! The only thing that matters to them as regulators is their budgets growing and their empires getting larger! I can rattle off the names of about 6 or 7 carriers that got audited by the FMCSA and basically had form and manner mistakes, then got fined for a very minor violation of something contained in 391.51. With the largest amount being a violation of 391.51 (b) (1). One was as simple as not crossing Ts and dotting Is with regard to 391.23 (b) and not fully following the procedures set out in 391.23 (c) (3). A lot of drivers think that carrier HR and Safety depts are being total AHs when they get strict with these records. I have said this before and I will say it again. When the FMCSA does an audit the first two things they hit are the Log dept and the Driver Qualification files. They normally come in with a "hit list" of drivers culled from the SMS database. I think @brian991219 has experienced this too.

 

Some of it is due to job hopping, and more is due to working in the patch, but my job history is nearly as fun to write as a congressional bill.

We used to get jobs by showering, dressing professionally and actually having a conversation with a prospective employer. I know I’m antiquated but we used to do things on our word and a handshake. Then giving a little personal info and off we went!! I don’t even bother with a resume because most sites require you to fill out their application anyhow.

 

If I cant walk through the front door and arrange an interview in person then I dont want to work there. Ive never gotten a meaningful or long term job by submitting an application and/or resume. The few jobs I have gotten by way of application were short term jobs when I was in college. Ive been working pretty much continuously since I was 13 years old.

 

My life experiences are much the same. The thing is with CDL holders is those dang regulations! Most notably 391.21 (a)&(b)! This one regulation has tripped up many fleet owners either through an FMCSA audit or a lawsuit!

 

My very first job was with Halliburton in Hobbs, NM. I walked in, talked to 2 people from HR and recruiting. Got hired to go to school and get my CDL. My next job was with Semcrude, also in Hobbs.. I stopped by because dispatch had p!ssed me off at Halliburton. I was so mad I came into the Semcrude office still wearing dirty Halliburton coveralls... and asked if they were hiring...lol
Hauling crude oil was my favorite job ever as a truck driver.
