Never run the truck out of fuel, although been sucking fumes more than a few times. First reefer company ran a reefer out of fuel twice, once got it filled and primed myself, the other time had to take it to a dealer and have them get it running.

When I started Daddy told me boy you got a pocket full of my money. There is no excuse for running out of fuel. So for 19 years way after I no longer had a pocket full of his money life was good. One day this past summer I walk past his ol Pete and say self take Dad's truck today. Mind you for years the gauge in my Pete didn't work. Any who here I am in a big corn race on I 30 when the big V-8 sputtered I said oh ####. Too late. Now for the kicker his fuel gauge works on both tanks. LMFAO

I guess I'm lucky, 38 years of driving, I've never ran out so far, watch, now that I said that, I'll run out next week.

Headed east on 20 out of Birmingham halfway up the big hill when it was still two eastbound lanes.

And once on 81 bout two miles south of lee hi truck stop. Both times a tank vent clogged and suck one tank dry.

Haven't yet. Hope I never have that "privilege".
If I do, it probably will be a mechanical problem, because there would be no way I'd plan a trip without doing fuel stops. -
I haven't ran it out due to my actions. But twice the truck has run out on it's own.
1998 Century going down the Coquihalla, snowing up top. Got past smasher a ways, tried some throttle, no response. Some reason I thought putting it into neutral was a good idea. Then it died completely, now I'm in Mexican overdrive with no power steering. Fortunately we had a light load. I wound up coasting about 18 Kms all the way to Othello Rd. It was only raining there. Turned out the shutoff valve stem was sucking air, so it lost its prime.
Second was my 2013 Western Star, it was a tank vent frozen off by the slush. Love them DD15 as it had a manual pump to prime the engine myself. -
bzinger Thanks this.
