How many of you idiots are running reefer for less than $2 a mile?

Well let's review.
As variable costs, notably fuel are at a historical high, it is far MORE likely than someone will take a "backhaul" at a significant discount in order to partly offset their losses, specifically getting into a lane with too many trucks, not enough freight.

This has been the situation since deregulation began in 1980, now ingrained in the system.
By the way, the marketplace is ruthless, doesn't take into account any such altruistic concepts as "Say No to Cheap Freight"

I must agree. I do not pull reefer but I did take a backhaul this week for $1.75 a mile on 800 miles. The head haul was about $3.50 pm though. I'm at $2.70 all miles couch to couch on just over 2k miles after a short haul home today. All about the balance.

 

But some will argue that you should’ve let that load sit to teach the broker a lesson and bounced home and been at $1.75 all miles for the week.

 

When truck drivers start to act like this, the ultimate in altruism, I will take notice:

 

1.04 plus fsc as a lease purchase with a mega is a hell of a lot different then 1.60 a mile working the spot market... They are not the same game or even the same sport... I dont begin to make any profit right now until im over 2.35 a mile... But you claim to make 1,500 net a week running 1.40 a mile.. See what im saying? 2 different things.

 

And...

 

It should be well known for someone operating on the spot market, that you can try to hide from the cheap freight but the cheap freight will still find you!
