Driving itself, I'm ok at. I'm down in Rankin County, about 4 hours and roughly 230 miles from Myrtle

that might be a little far, but if your a decent driver and willing to work for your paycheck Call Watkins Shepard, you'll gross $40,000-$45,000 your first year, its dry van but we do allot of LTL furniture deliverys to stores thats all hand unloaded but it does pay $20/per stop.....

If that doesnt sound like your thing or they say your to far away call KLLM, or better yet call May Trucking see if they will hire you they have 13 speeds.

If you go to Watkins Shepard tell Tim in Orientation that Andrew in 2026 sent you, and about your shifting problem, he'll take care of ya.

Other then that you can try again, or go to another school and ask for a 1 hour shifting lesson in a 10 speed should only be like $100 if that.

I think I am just out of their hiring area if I remember correctly. I didn't know about May trucking, they have a operating center in Pensacola. Have also put in some apps at some of the places that have automatics just in case I can't get shifting a 10 speed down. I think I got madder at myself then the driving instructor at McElroy did when I couldn't shift gears. But, I'm gonna go with whoever will hire me for now since I don't have my previous job to go back to

Well i'd try for that hour of practice, picking your first company is VERY important it can make you or break you in trucking.....

Good Luck where ever you end up....and let us know! lol

about 50% of the companies that came to my school recruiting run automatics.....and some of them didn't sound like bad gigs, just those #### autos i had no interest in dealing with......alot of them out there now hiring students that run the autos.....

this may be a viable option for you if you can handle the vehicle but are a little unsure of the shifting.

Do you remember the names of them by chance? I can only think of two off hand, total and us xpress. But I think they are both owned by the same company. I think my best bet would be to get on with a company in an automatic until I can get some more training at a school or something in manuals. Course, if I hadn't had to shell out the money to pay for the school myself, I could wait a while and find a company that would/could take the time to train me better. But, like everybody else, I gotta pay the bills somehow..lol

Are you sure? I am not an expert on transmissions but I know there are as many variations in the "H" pattern as there are flavors of ice cream, plus some. To have a new driver go into an unfamiliar truck without knowing what transmission is in it, is just totally unprofessional.

I chose a school, like most people not knowing anything about what to look for, and all we drove was 10s. Luckily the company I went to was also 10s. And all of them had splitters, that must be a typo. That would be a huge rail-to-rail distance without one.. heheheheee

I would think if you can shift, then you can shift any tranny. You just need time to learn the pattern. If it is not on a sticker then draw your own and stick it on the dash.

I agree they should have told what the truck had, but his school should have taught him enough to know that if there is no splitter in a otr truck its probably a 10 speed
