@SteveScott I am picky as far as what I drive and places I'm willing to go. Hard to find anyone willing to deal with. Not to mention the pay sucks as a company driver lol.

You missed the point, A guy sharp enough to retire that early should know better than to buy a truck, especially now

If the trucking you want to do can’t pay for the kind of equipment you want to run then you can’t afford to pay cash for it. A good business plan starts with the company being able to afford the equipment on its own.

That says it all in my book. Buy your own truck, run about half the time. You'll still be able to pay for it and make some money and if you don't run hard you enjoy it all the time. That's what I'm doing and I'll never retire. Actually, I will, for about 5 days at a time, then I'm ready to hook on and go somewhere. I'm 46 too.

    kimbosa and WREN Thank this.

I started driving in 1992. I had about $800 then. Drove company trucks for 5.5 years. I saved $120k. I bought a brand new truck for $84,900 . It had extended warranties. I paid cash.
At that point it would have been about impossible to fail.
And I still had $35k in the bank. No wife/kids. No rent either.
Anyway, I quit driving a few years ago because my parents got old and needed help. They died 4 years ago. I haven't worked since 2012. I think about going back on the road because nothing else really interests me.
I lived in trucks for 20 years. It used to seem normal.
I'll have to discuss this with my mom's cat that is now my responsibility. Don't know if she wants to travel.
    I have owned 2 trucks.
The Ingles grocery warehouse is a few miles from my house.
Plenty of day cab trucks. They advertise for drivers. Out and back. Might be a good job for me. I wouldn't need a truck and I wouldn't have to fix it.

I'm on try number 3. Learned some hard lessons, but believe I've learned enough to make it this time. I just can't keep my head down and mouth shut when working for truck driving companies. So much mismanagement, fraud, and political games. A couple more months, I'll have saved up enough to operate until the checks start coming in. Then I'll cut ties with this company and roll on.
