Slight correction...the word you are looking for is "monitor", not "driver." See, when they get the thing underway and perfect the system, these autonomous trucks wont need a driver, they will need a monitor. A monitor can be anyone. No license needed. So, all the burnouts, potheads, drunks, homeless, crackbabies, streetwalker and any braindead moron over the age of 16 will be able to do. Come into a problem? Push yellow button. The megas will be alllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll over this.
On the other hand, within 5 years, the vast majority of Americans will be completely unable to operate any car that doesnt have that lane control and braking crap. There wont be many drivers.

H-O-W-E-V-E-R...there still be drivers. Real drivers. Can drive anything on planet earth. Once they cut the fat, the people that can actually drive will one again be Skilled Labor. They will get rid of the CDL stuff and go back to the Chauffer's License. And these people will make bank!

    "How do you know, Six?"

Do you think US presidents and dignitaries and wealthy fatcats are going to trust themselves and or valuable loads to automation that will be easy to stop, hijack or hack? What about law enforcement, rescue and firefighters? Every time there is a big storm, bad weather, a natural disaster or some terror attack, or some sidewalk sissy antifa protest, they will need drivers.

So, why are you people afraid? The only people that need to worry are the steeringwheelholders. The people that can actually drive without cattleprods will get paid. Bring on the automation!

When this kind of driving tries to go autonomous I want to be there to watch.

We run logging trucks and lowboys on these kind of roads all the time.

Oh give it another 1000 years i'm sure we'll have driverless trucks and we can all be beamed up to the moon or Mars in a flash as well.
