Man you could make some good money like that though, My father in law is mentor driver. the two day class does kind of suck. I heard mentors also get so many cents for every mile their students drive once they are solo for 6 months or something. That could add up fast if you had 5-7 students a year. I think he said he gets some $150 a month right now for two old students.
Ya I kno but Im at a Walmart DCand would have to go back to OTR and I really dont wanna do that mess again this keeps me close to home and i get home for restarts and hometime no problem and I make better money here. And wanna go local in 3 months I just need to stay til then and I got someone I know to get me a tanker job but need 2yr exp for ins. Reasons
@snowd21 I start in Phoenix on Tuesday, doing the flatbed division. Is that what you are doing as well?
sacarface2200: Oh right, that's a good point, i would choose the same thing. I have already been trying to figure out how to plan for my resets to happen near my home lol
Honestly Im not sure what Im doing, probably dry van. Whatever the normal is, I didn't discuss it with my recruiter. does flatbed pay more? How did you pick flatbed, did you just ask?
You gotta call them and tell them if u want FB only a few terminals do training or wait and get out there and change but ur bes t bet would do it now to get a FB mentor to learn the ropes Ya new restarts are gonna suck july 1specially if ur a night driver like me I will have to take 58hr restarts its just dumb if u ask me
my mentor said he gets an extra $0.01 per mile his students do after, he said if you train nonstop and keep pumping out trainees then your potential can be a lot of extra money per month, as some said though you give your life into someone elses hand while your asleep. My mentor said there were some students where he never left the front seat and some he felt very comfortable with. He said he has a friend who is a mentor and he never goes to team status, just lets the students drive and he is happy with a lower check. Guess its all in your preference in how you want to do it.
great info not bad pay and enough days off honestly. I work very similar right now but make half these wages for the most part and don't care for the work usually
Yes, we can run what is called super solo, which is I the Mentor can start the morning and drive 3-4 hours and the student can drive then 8-10. Still can add up to some serious miles every week and the truck is still stopped at night for a 10. The only drawback to that, the mentor will have to do many 34 restarts. As a team, we can do running 34 hour, and super solo, I do not think so.
my mentor let me do the majority of driving depending on the load, there were a couple loads where the truck never sat, I would do close to 11 and park in a fuel island then the other would take over. I had to do a 34 every single week we were out but I dont mind having a day off a week if I ran hard and used up most of my 70, I used the time to do my laundry etc.
