Honestly there isn't that much difference in gross salary for a company driver solo and a lease paying solo O/O's net before taxes ... the difference is the O/O gets to keep more due to his tax advantages.
Financially O/O is a long term game. The pay off comes when and if you can pay off a truck ... but beyond finances there are other perks, more control over your loads, your schedule, your truck and at any point, if you have the where with all and resources to do so, you have the opportunity to grow your business. -
thats true, my old mentor is about to be finished paying off his truck in a couple months and wants to expand buying a 2nd truck and hiring someone to drive one of them while he drives the other and still mentors. I know if it works out he wants to hire me for one of the trucks and I will take the opportunity for more perks and slightly more pay. He said he wants to see how I perform solo for a bit and he said I will learn more on my own.
I have heard a lot of o/o's do this once they have a truck paid off, I talked to a couple people recently who work for an o/o and enjoy it, little more perks and pay plus you dont have the hassle of the finance part.
I wish company drivers could get a little more perks, using the mac 30 would be nice and a little more freedom with the truck such as inverters and fridges etc -
Sure L/O are gres t oncr you get the ttuck paid off but at the end of lease u need balloon payment or more lease several more yrs wannaa leas get a truck out ofswift cheaper payments
The L/P dont seem to make much $0 to $2000 a wk I have talked to a lot some deep in a hole
I have a $1500 a wk once a month almost every month and Im company -
Yeah my mentor told me to buy at a dealer not with swift, I saw you can save a weeks worth of money at a dealer.
I hope I get a couple quick loads that drop by wednesday or my check this week is going to be only around $300 with what I did over the weekend, I did take Monday through Friday off though which hurts the check. -
yeah, week coming and going home is tough. your weeks will pick up as you gain more experience going solo.

I hope so, they just gave me another crappy run going to Renton, WA and its only 168 miles, I need more than this though to bounce back from the week off.
Do only o/o get paid more per mile for shorter runs or is it any company driver? -
you should have got the breakdown on pay. i don't remember the actual pay is.but yes, company drivers get higher pay for short runs too. ask matt when you talk to him again

just run that load up there as fast as you can get there. hopefully they take it early. you just never know what the next load is. unknowingly to you, they might be setting you up for a longer run. expect a heavy load of some kind of paper.
-
its a 45k load im picking up, guess I will need to scale it out
Im still sitting at my stop getting unloaded, at least I get detention now but its eating my 14 up, I have a little over 9hrs left on the 14 just from sitting here. I drove across the street so it didnt even register drive time. The next load doesnt have an appointment time yet, they are supposed to be giving me one for tomorrow the planner said but I can make it there tonight if they allow me to take it early, it looked like another dang live unload.
