Ok here's the deal. I have a CDL and own a 75 ton crane. The crane goes from job to job on a Lowboy. I want to haul the fall off loads with a pick-up and trailer. The load weights are about 26k. I would not be hauling for hire per say but would be hauling for my own profit, so technically commercial in Washington state. So there's the situation. My questions are.
1. Tire width on 12 tires come to 42000lbs, will DOT let me license my combo for this much? Even though truck says 30,000gcvwr?
2. Since I'm not for hire but over 26k, do I still need DOT MCC?
3. I PACK a million in insurance already but I'm not hauling other peoples frieght, would I still have to carry an additional mill insurance on my truck?
How much can I carry

Will you be traveling outside the state your in?
-
Once in awhile. Most of the time I will be within 100-150 miles of the house.
-
When I say load weights I mean the actual weight of cargo not gross truck and trailer.which would be up around 41k
-
You will need insurance and a dot number.
You will not need an MC authority unless you plan to haul for hire.
For hire means your hauling for someone else besides your self.
You must own all cargo on the trailer.
If you leave your home state you will need an IFTA license.
As for licensing weight add the gvw of the trailer and the gvw of the truck together and that is the maximum weight you can license for. -
Oh and if you leave your home state you must get apportioned plates for the truck.

Did everyone else miss the part where he said move 26k with a pickup and trailer. Not 26k total but 26k + the truck and trailer weight. That seems like it need to go on an actual flatbed not a 3500 and a goose neck
Hulld Thanks this. -
Now stopping those death traps is whole different story.Veteran driver Thanks this. -
Gcvwr 30k then no I don't think so. How do you imagine if 30k is what its rated for, they are gonna extend that an extra 12k for you....? Unless I missed something.
What pickup and trailer do you have? Specs?
That's a lot of weight for a pickup to try and stop. Hope you never have to emergency stop, if you do better hire a #### good lawyerVeteran driver Thanks this. -
When I started hauling cars I had a 3500 pick up pulling a 4 car trailer licensed legal with a gvw combination of 36,000#.
Now think of the gvw weight of the pickups pulling 5 and 6 car trailers.
Is it legal absolutely.
Is it unsafe and scary in my opinion absolutely.
This is why most of us who started that way quickly updated to full size tractor and trailer.
