That is like saying that the minimum wage should be $15 bucks an hour.

    Catch-22.
Raise the wages and the cost of living goes up by much the same percentage, and no one wins in the end.

People with less demand more, and people with more want more.
A never ending cycle of getting more through conflict.

I'm seeing a few jobs in your area on CL hauling sand, some home nightly some home weekends that meet your pay range expectations. For you being up against your 14 all week I'm thinking the pay you'd like is totally reasonable. Don't get under paid your time is too valuable for that. Good luck.

I disagree someone who busts tail 60-70hrs/wk asking to make 60-80k and a loser who man's the fryer for minimum wage asking for $15/hr are not two in the same IMO. I don't see the pay range he'd like as unreasonable or unattainable. Before going O/O in my last year as a company driver with prime I made $68k. Just got get yourself with the right company and making a decent wage isn't a problem.

I'm planning on starting at Swift since it seems to be easiest company to get into with no upfront costs. The recruiter told me that people coming out of their training school start solo at $0.36/mile dry van division. I don't know how accurate this is. The 2015 updated pay scale I found on Google shows $0.25/mile starting for trips longer than 300 miles. The only thing I'm not looking forward to is Swift doesn't allow any personal conveyance, so if I wanna stop someplace to eat, see a movie, or a Wal-Mart, that would cut into my working hours, or I'd have to call a taxi when I go off-duty.

Doesn't it all boil down to having a good relationship with your DM that understands the schedule you want to run and keeps you busy? Because I've read stories of people having to sit half or entire days burning on duty time waiting for their next load because their DM wasn't on the same page.

The recruiter is correct. A little search goes a long way. This is the first topic on the Swift thread. As far ### personal conveyance, if you are parked at a terminal and want to go to the wal mart you can. If you are at the terminal and just want to go to the truck stop and stay you can. The only issue is if you are on a 34 reset and you move that truck then you blow your 34 out the window. It has to be logged. Every time that you move that truck it has to be logged. Also while going on down the road there are many wal marts that allow truck parking that while you are running, you can stop and shop

Yeah, it just sucks that if I want to stop at a Wal-Mart or go to a Chinese restaurant or something, it cuts into my 14 hours.

I do all my Wal-Mart shopping during my driving day.
A 'quick' in and out is around 15-20 minutes, but taking a 30 for shopping is common for me.

    And many Chinese places deliver.
