    HI All;
    I will be leaving Tue. for orientation with US Express in Tunnel Hill, Ga.
    After three days I will have to be with a trainer for 28 days or 150 hours behind the wheel, then I get my own truck, another 2 weeks out. How much will it cost to live for those 5 to 6 weeks, and do I have to pay for anything that they do not tell you about? Do I bring all of my truck stuff with me? or do you have to wait till you get it home to add, TV, CB, Laptop, Ect...
    Thanks Dan

    most of the time the company pays for your hotel, you usually get a dinky complimentary breakfast at the hotel then they feed you lunch and dinners usually your cost. As for when you go on the road with your trainer id bring enough money to cover at least two meals a day depending on how hard your trainer decides to run. So an estimate of 50 bux a day that way you have a bit extra if you want to get something or need something. As for what to bring... bring all your cloths and personal items but as for a a laptop,cb etc call the company and question is there any chance that you can get home to get the other stuff you need such as the laptop and other accessories.

    USX only pays $300 a week for training time, I have a few bucks set aside, but $50 a day, that seems a lot? How much do they charge for food at truck stops? I guess I will be losing a lot of lb's. What about tolls, scales, if you break down? flat tire? Layover? dose the trainer pay for them? the company? Me? and I still have to make the house payments!!!!!!!!!!

    A meal in a truck stop + tip, usually comes to about $10-$11.
    Pretty expensive. I think they forget that we're out here to make a living, and not on vacation.

    You can get by pretty good if you figure on eating at least one good hot meal a day, and your other meals from a Subway, probably about $6.
    Or a sandwich, you make or buy, maybe about $3 + a drink, $1 to $1.50.

    It costs alot to be on the road, so you might want to figure that the money they pay you while in training will pay for those expenses. I wouldn't plan on that training money to pay your regular bills with.

    No, you will not have to pay for any truck expenses while you're with a trainer. So don't worry about that. You should only have to be concerned with your personal stuff. Food, coffee, soda's, toothpaste, etc.

    It might be hard while in training, but just keep in mind that when it's over with, you'll be earning much, much better wages.

    the company pays for it. They should give you a company fuel card for fuel. All you have to worry about is your personal expenses. $50 a day seems like overkill. The only other expense I can think of that you'll need cash for is tolls and scales. You pay cash, and the company reimburses you.
