On the flip side, Many of us city drivers don't want your job on the road and fine with paid per hour OT/8. LTL is a weird bunch of long lost brothers in the break room, young and old
Not sure at your shop. the road drivers get paid our wage per hour ( same wage as us P&D/dock ) if have to wait for the OBL. At our shop it's really not a difference in hr wage vs mileage drivers for a days work. Just preference and obviously seniority.
My company pays significantly more per hour. Boggles my mind 18.06
P.S We pay zero for medical cost. Knock up a 1 night stand now she has a kid with cancer and you add the kid?! it's covered. Union dues![]()
How much do you earn gross per year?

It's funny cause nobody on linehaul wants to do city. Vice versa with the city drivers in my yard but there are some defectors that jump on line more then to city. Yeah our pay has taken a major dip cause of YRC -15% no raises. At one time before the buyout my company was really hard to get into. One of our senior guys worked at One top 5 LTL's took him a couple of years to get over here believe it or not. You had to know someone to get on over here. Now we'll hire no exp for city and 1 yr linehaul. For me I really didn't have options cause I got canned from my previous gig. Gotta take what you can get. Still have a clean driving record though and kept my nose clean for couple yrs so if I want to go to another higher paying LTL I can. I Haven't applied at Saia in 2yrs and I'm getting calls from them and voicemail to go work over there. BUT I honestly like the laid back atmosphere over here. Yes it less pay but less BS. No elog(not yet), no cameras, no management following you when you leave the yard, no one and done like most big $$$ LTL's unless of course you kill someone. I have a bid and a bid tractor. Some companies as a line guy you might be on the extra board for 9-10+ yrs before you see a bid.Shaggy Thanks this.

At our shop, super low turnover rate. senior road guys freely admit that you won't get their run unless they are on vacation, PTO or they retire. They aren't being arrogant, they been there done that in bottom level guys shoes before. but, most of our road guys done OTR experience before their current gig. I did 4 days OTR and certainty not for me ( road / mileage ) I can freely admit this now, Former employer was UPS. Dang correct make slightly less pay and not micro manged and happy now myself.
We are still brothers in this business, Brothers from another mother lol -

Barr Nunn just raised the caps on all the different pay options they have. I'm not 100% sure what my new cap is. It used to be .49pm on the band pay program for northeast regional. They gave us a .03 cent raise so now I'm at .52pm base. Looks like about 63-65k this year for OTR 3-4 weeks out at that pay rate. 52-55k if home every weekend.

A 3yr Company Driver, $51,000 is about the norm/ alittle more or less for OTR. But as experience is gained money can be greatly saved when OTR. Personally I use Trk Stop Points as extra income to purchase items I need rather than purchasing them at home. I usually gain $40-$60 a month from fuel purchases paid for by the Company I am employed with. It all adds up.

I'm on pace to make about 75k this year running LTL throughout Chicago.
