It is hard to find a common denominator. After all operational costs actually incurred (fuel, repairs, truck and trailer payments, tolls, parking,,etc) and I don't count here arbitrary things such as driver pay, maintenance fund ,IRA contributions, Verizon phone bills etc. There should also be stated the amount of work: the miles and days out.
Then the physical aspect of work is relevant too. I've seen disabled people with canes and walkers or old ladies to be able to drive dry vans and they could never some open deck work.
I think that generally 100K makes it good with 80-100K miles and up to 200 days worked. Then out of that 200 only half of it as full days OTR.
How much does “the truck” make?

Yes it’s all over the board.
My truck rakes in $3.00 a mile consistently. About $280,000 a year.
But it burns $1.00 per mile to make it, plus an average of $28,000 a year for maintenance and repairs between the truck and mostly the trailer, most of that for tires. About $2,000 a month for plates, various insurances and fees. -

My Revenue/ days worked #s about same as Tall Joes for last qtr. Worked 49 days took 43 days off of which included 29 days straight that included 3 days of work on Truck.Doing my Own work when possible. Overall could have made more paying a Shop for repairs and Working another week or so. Rather take time off these days.

My truck earns enough to enjoy a beer on a Friday night.
In other words, it earns enough after all expenses have been deducted to keep me happy -
