I actually use all of the 10 hours to sleep when there is what Doctors call a Sleep Bill. That is built up in your body.

What happens when you wake up normally in the morning over time about 16 hour day you build up toxins and other problems inside your body systems, mind and in the blood. When you go to sleep again, that is the time to have the body and mind go do janitor work in the night as you rest and rebuild damaged cells, lost bone etc systemwide.

If you stay up long enough as I have, say 4 days and three nights straight, you will need about 16 to 21 hours straight sleep to get rested and well again.

The technology you use emits blue light into your eyes. It is medically proven to destroy your natural sleep clock and keep you awake tossing and turning when you do try to sleep.

As a defense what I do is download f.lux as a app to either the Computers PC and the smart phone. It localizes itself to your sunrise and sunset plus uses certain other color settings to reduce eyestrain as well. If you use this program like I do you will find that at night there is no blue light screwing with you when it's time to sleep. You have enough of that from cars coming the other way at night when you are running a 18 wheeler. (Yellow night glasses takes care of that problem)

Everyone is different. At my age I get by on 6 hours straight. But at least once a day I have to take another 4 or so. In trucking there is no time legally for that sillyness unless for some miracle Texas's three hour nap rule managed to pass. As I get older I need less sleep at night, but I will require day time nap that is at least one complete sleep cycle of 4 hours.

Even today's 30 minutes stop is a liability. You need to keep the left door shut and put away your 10 or 11 hours away asap. The logging BS these days are worst than my time in 2001 when things were really simple. And for some older folks pre 1962 even more easier than that.

Well first of all I can easily sleep 8 or 9 hrs. Matter of fact 8 is my minimum.
Add in a couple cups of coffee , dropping a nice deuce and a shower Heck that's about 11hrs right there.
Second do you really need somebody to tell you , oh wait I guess so cause your asking nevermind.

My longest 'normal' day is 12 hours on and 12 hours off.
Sometimes it is a longer on-duty day, but seldom a shorter off-duty time period.
I prefer 10 hours on and 14 hours off.

A 30 minute break is not down time, it is simply a break in the day.

    RedRover Thanks this.

Go for walks and get as much exercise in as possible. Read a good book and keep your mind active. Stay off the phone and computer. They just make your eyes worse.
I have drivers that carry a bicycle or jog while on breaks.
