i am a salaried driver, union, and we get $22.50 to sit for breakdown service, we get paid as soon as we bump a dock, and we do not touch freight.

life is good for me and my co-workers.

That's a good way to open up a can of worms.

There goes the neighborhood and here comes the pissing contest popcorn is popping now I'm waiting for the show.

You don't need to know anything about the mechanics. That's not your job, you can make it your job, but it's not. Some guys are just into it, some aren't, but you don't need any mechanical skills to drive.

I think the most obvious answer is simply none. As a company driver your not paid to be a mechanic, your paid to drive. However having a basic knowledge of what everything is and the basic knowledge of how it works can help you get back on the road and making money sooner. Because your in a better position to describe the problem.

    how so?

i cannot help it if i have a very good job, great pay structure, and great benefits, including a full pension at retirement. i worked hard to get this job i got and have had now for about close to 25 years. i cannot help it if we get paid to sit and wait for breakdown service, if it is ever needed, as i stated, all our equipment is brand new,

i cannot help it if some of you are broke down, and have to get dirty to make a repair or lose money sitting on the side of the road, waiting for breakdown service to show up.

no, you see, i cannot help it, i have a great job, better than most of you, and all i have to do is drive to my destinations and drop off freight and go on my way to the next stop.

no, you see, i cannot help it at all, i do my job, with pre-post trip inspections, i write up anything that is wrong (which very rarely there is something wrong) and the shop takes care of it, while i wait, while i am on the clock from the time i arrive, till i get back and finish my paper work.

all PM services are done if and when needed, on our home-time, so when we go back, it is completed.

no siree, i cannot help it, i got it better than most, that do not get paid as well as i do, or have new equipment. i guess then it beckons to say, go find a job as good as mine?

    i just can't help it.

The other day I got out my can-opener and was opening a can of worms when I thought, What am I doing?!
