No because it's not just the dealers that are saying this.
Independent mechanics are saying the same thing.
Now they may just be mouthing the party line.
That I don't know but they are all saying the same thing.
    At least 20000 to rebuild.
I think it's a shame really because that is a #### good motor.

FYI cummins shop in El paso, TX quoted me 12800 for an inframe. They said it includes the pistons, liners etc. Also includes vibration damper front and rear seals and reman head. Also told me they'd install 6 injectors for the price of 5.

I just had some work done at a volvo dealer. I asked him for a quote and told them what the El Paso dealer told me.

The volvo people me I was nuts if I got the work done there that there was something wrong and it was impossible for them to do the work that cheap.

As far as I'm concerned it's an authorized Cummins dealer they have to use genuine Cummins parts and there's a one year 100,000 mile warranty that's good anywhere in the country.

I would expect to spend at least $10,000 for an inframe.

I had my turbo run away like that. To stop it you need to throw the truck into high gear and stall it. It will save the motor and turn it off.

    Ahhhhhhh!!!!! Zombie thread!!!!
@Bahdan101 running at 3k rpm and just engage a gear and pop the clutch? You would just grenade the drive shaft and the engine would just keep turning lol.

Hey I stopped my motor. Had exact same thing happen. It's been two years ago and still running same motor. I have a ten speed and put it into 10th gear.
But I will admit that it might not work all the time. I was told to do it and had no other options except duck and cover.
If my motor decides to run away again that's probably first thing I'll try. Next would be to break something on the air piping and starve it of air.

In addition to putting it into top gear, empty your bed blanket and closet into the aircleaner opening.
Raincoats work best. It is running off the oil in engine, but can't run if there is no air getting into engine.

The ISX price jumps pretty good when you have to replace cams which is almost always a good idea.
