For a local driver layover is when I have to stay in a hotel overnight. What is layover for an otr driver?

Layover is just a fancy term for "we really don't need you or what you have, talk to us on Monday,,," and you think you're going to get paid for that? Something they didn't tell you in school.

I think I get about $150. Pay no attention to the distractions of others that are off topic. Good subject.

A Heineken and a Rib Eye is good with me. ;-)

$150 to $200... Layovers are very rare in my line of work, maybe once a year.

My detention pay is $15/hr. That’s a $360 day lay over.

Most of the time, I don’t reach full 24hrs because the company ALWAYS tows a spare truck to my location.

You’ve probably seen bob tails towing another bobtail.

Layover $16.20/hr after 14 ($162 for any 24 hour period)
    Detention $16.20/hr after 2 hours

    IC*
Layover 62% of contracted rate capped at 8-10 hours (rate is usually $75-125) and 62% of flat layover fee (usually $400)
    Detention 62% of contracted rate
*subject to collection, if the shipper/receiver refuses to pay, the IC gets nothing.

Sorry, as an old timer, I get a chuckle out of someone that goes into trucking, and wants layover pay. 1st, it's not that kind of job. If you are "laying over" you aren't really working (driving,loading/unloading, etc) and in an otr setting, it's going to happen, you will sit somewhere, I( and they) don't care what you think your time is worth. If that's an issue, and it was with me, go local by the hour. Then it's a regular type job.I was never in a situation where I needed layover pay, but the bosses I had would have laughed in my face if I asked for that.
