Dont forget not all companies care enough about you to even pull up your DAC to write bad stuff. I know guys who quit by just calling dispatch and telling them to route them to a place to drop off the truck. When dispatch said to do a few more runs, the driver just told them that he is quitting and will return the truck to the terminal whether they have him loaded or not. I would never do that, he lives in Texas and worked about five great local trucking jobs in a year lol. That economy is like 1990 down there. Too bad hardly anyone speaks English and every road is shut down and detoured or I would move there.
How much of a notice to quit is required to where they won't damage my dac?

Give 2 weeks but be prepared for them to bring you in right away. Depends on the company and also on how good(bad?) your relationship is with them. As far as you DAC (It's called HireRight now) is concerned, you never know what they will put on there. You can get a free copy of you DAC report once a year so it's a good idea for everyone to check their report every so often. Go to http://www.hireright.com/Consumers-Applicants.aspx to get yours.

HireRight calls their report the DAC Employment History File.windsmith Thanks this. -
Nothing can be entered on DAC untill they enter a termination report. Everything is point and click, there is no ability to "write" anything you want. -

I have never given a company a notice. I simply walk in, toss keys on the counter, sign the truck inspection form to show free of defects caused by me and leave. All companies I have worked for have given me a satisfactory performance. DAC won't state anything specific like a 2 week notice. It will just show that you resigned/terminated lease. No biggie. Its the other crap you have to worry about like saying you damaged the truck or abandoned it when you really didn't.
Notices are for those who need to start looking for a replacement before you go so they can continue operation without issues. Mega carriers don't need notices because they have people coming in by the bus loads that have been prehired a week to a month prior. Not giving them a notice won't hurt them one bit and it's not like they are gonna take notice of it anyway because you always a number, never a name! -
As a side note, I found out from the office staff that my company considers a driver to have voluntarily quit when they are a no call / no show for 3 days in a row. So if you just don't show up for 2 days without calling in, you can waltz in on the 3rd day as if nothing ever happened!

Try and give at least 2 weeks....it's not a rule or even anything close to a rule...it's just called doing the right thing....even if you can't stand the job or the folks that gave you the job in the 1st place....doing the right thing can never be looked as being wrong....just my view , others mileage may vary....
Jumbo Thanks this.
