Glad things are working out for you at Schneider. I have been conversing with a lease operator there for the past year. He started out good but then Schneider lost the account he was on and he had to switch to a new account. Heavier loads, less home time, and less money. Last I heard he was really struggling.
How much of a pay cut would you accept?

The company I work for cut out our 401k, cut wages 10% across the board, then went out and spent $5 million on new trucks. It sucks to work there any more but there isn't anywhere else to go right now.

I guess it could have been worse but now that I know the parent company is struggling financially I am left with apprehension and a general sense of malaise.
Will this 5% cut be enough to turn things around? Will additional cuts be coming down the pike? What happens if NEMF management decides the Eastern division is not pulling its weight and decides to disolve it?
Sheesh I think I need some Maalox! -
50% or more to do something I like. But I guess the starting figure is important.

i think probably no more than 5-10% cut, but i don't think that is the best way; i think it would be better to layoff the workers with the least senority and/or paycut the "essential management's" pay.
The key is to lessen/eliminate hiring and/or lessen eliminate existing drivers.
My view is that the frieght(some of it at least) is still out there and the company needs to have an appropriate amount of drivers to cover it. Instead of having too many drivers and lessening the amount of pay to each driver.

Just received a letter in the mail from the General Manager James Belxxxx.
Date: July 10th 2009.
To: All eastern Drivers
From: James Belxxxx, General Manager
I want to express the appreciation and thanks that the Shevells, the Executive Committee, and I have for the job that you do. Without dedicated, professional drivers, Eastern Freight Ways would not be the quality carrier it is today. Our objective during these difficlut times is to survive the storm and position ourselves properly for the rebound that will come at some point in the future.
As we fight our way through this recession, it has become necessary for ALL workers within The Shevell Group of companies to make sacrifices. From drivers to office workers to managers, every one of the employees at Eastern and the other companies has been impacted. We sincerely appreciate your understanding and support with this wage adjustment and we can assure you that your assistance will help the company to remain stable and competitive in the months ahead.
Together, we can make a difference at Eastern Freight Ways.
Sincerely James Belxxxx, General manager
I wonder how many other companies will be issuing similar statements to their workers over the next few months.... -
You will gladly accept any pay cut that the company gives you. The reason being, you need your job and weekly paycheck. You have bills to pay, mouths to feed and a wife that will nag you right out of your easy chair should you decide to quit and go home. You DO NOT want that to happen.

I have 3 cats and a cadillac that all eat better than me.
