How much of a pay cut would you accept?

You would be surprised how many within this forum have already received one...and aren't talking about it.

I know 2 companies (seen the letters) that are being discussed on a regular basis, that have cut driver wages. Still not a single mention within this forum.

Makes you wonder if they're ashamed, or what?

I didn't really have a "pay cut" as much as a "you better take time off". My fellow workers and I were told to take 11 days off with no pay. It eats into my overall pay, but it is better than having no job. So instead of relaxing on my 11 days off I am going to be working on my vehicles at home. It really does suck when your company has record years for five years in a row and then bam, you all have to take time off.

Id be willing if I was working for a company that I believed in. One that has a good reputation in the industry and I was proud to work for.
I dont work for a company like that, so no...I wouldnt take a pay cut.
I wouldnt even wear a company hat if they gave it to me(and I like hats).

I still wear my Arrow hat, mostly for blame shifting purposes. :biggrin_25525:

My company has been asking drivers for their input on ways to operate more efficiently, increase sales, and cut costs. Anyone else's company doing that?

JB Hunt cut my pay. I was making 45 cents a mile in the OTR division. They are killing the OTR division. I was told I was getting "promoted" to the "regional" division. 32 cents a mile. It's the same job, same customers, the same runs I've been getting the last ten years. The only trade off is that I get more home time, but I can't afford to take it. They are getting rid of the OTR division, and us guys at top pay got screwed the hardest. Before the "promotion" to regional they were starving us out with 800-1200 mile weeks. Now I'm back up to 2500 mile weeks, but at 2/3 of my old rate. I'd leave, but to where? Everyone is paying in the low 30 cents these days.

IN YRC's case, the company, via the Teamsters union is asking for ANOTHER paycut.

The last one was 10%. They want another 10 to 20%. Plus your union dues remain the same.

    Whatta deal, huh?

As long as union management get their money, they could care less. They've gotten as bad as any other corporation.

First off, sorry about the late reply. I've been extremely busy the past few weeks and haven't spent as much time on here as I normally do.

Don't feel you are alone in the "needing Maalox" department! As to the question of will this 5% be enough, only time will tell. Your "apprehension and malaise" is shared by many, and most probably includes the top management of your company. No one knows where this is heading, but it sure looks like we haven't seen the worst of it yet.

Should your management decide to disolve you division, you will be out looking for work, just like thousands of others. But there is nothing you can do to change this. So don't let it drive you crazy worrying about it. If you feel that the company has treated you right in the past, then hang in there. It is surely better than the alternative.

Probably one hell of a lot of them. Just know that the owners/management are most likely taking it in the shorts, right along with the drivers!

In your dreams, maybe! Well, maybe even in YOUR company. I know that I have never worked for a company that would ask a "mere driver" for input on ANYTHING! You just might have a company worth working for here.

I read all the horror stories and just have to thank God that I am retired. However, FWIW, it looks like my better half may be layed off later this year...:biggrin_2552:

I seen that one coming, sorry to say. They didn't go deep enough the first time.

While that's just my opinion, I based it on the numbers they provided. And I'm sure they were afraid to ask for more, the first round.
