I guess I was under the assumption that lapses in your employment history, and periods of self employment, were things that had to be explained and defended. I didn't know how much trouble it was going to give me.
How much of a problem is my work history going to be?

I remember Werner and a couple other national carriers I talked to making a big deal about me taking a couple years off, they wanted to know why, I said I didn't have to work and I wanted time off. I was pretty shocked that they cared at all, I didn't collect unemployment or disability or declare bankruptcy or anything like that, it was all true. Well, I ended up going with someone else local so it was never an issue. But I wouldn't be surprised if prospective OTR employers ask you to verify it with statements from whomever that says what you say is true.

My wife lost her job as a store manager when Circuit City went bankrupt about 5 years ago and hasn't worked since. Seems her "midlife crisis" is to become a full time student again.
Don't get me wrong, we can more than make it on my earnings, but it sure would be nice to have an extra income coming in again to get a little extra breathing room. Anyways, just having a little fun. Good luck with the job hunt driver.BeanDip Thanks this. -
Thanks for kind words, Mudguppy. Talked to some recruiters today, and filled out their apps. I guess push is coming to shove.
At least over the phone no one seemed concerned about those couple years of unemployment. I've read to many stories on here about folks getting sent home for really dumb things. I have to remember to take those stories with a grain of salt, as I'm only reading the piss-and-moan half of the story.Mudguppy Thanks this. -
Meh. Who knows, I 'prolly deserved it.CasanovaCruiser, bigdogpile and Mudguppy Thank this. -

On another, more relevant note. I've been accepted to Henderson and Swift.
I head out to Henderson's facilities in Caseyville, Illinois on or around Sept 7.
Turns out my worries about my employment history wernt nuthin' to worry 'bout.
