Actually Paccar makes a very nice base motor mechanically, in fact they(are the 1st BTW) have made a very good run at building an economical/dependable engine around all of the governmental restrictions and limitations. Unlike everyone else who is trying to adapt their current design to the new mandates.(in all fairness I think I should point out that Cummins ISM series engines appear to be totally reconfigured the meet the govn't mandates but don't make the necessary torque required to make a good long haul class 8 truck). There is only 1 reason that 2012 is for sale and that is because the warranty is up,(or very close to it) and the original owner has traded it for another new 1 with another warranty. Leaving guys like you and me to buy them up and spend truckloads of money on them to keep them going.

I would buy a 150 000 mile truck for $45 000-00 and when I checked a month later the workshop had spent another $30 000-00.
I had to change the request to fix everything that is not in good shape as they would replace everything that showed any wear and did not appear new.
Building a truck by buying parts is probably 3 times more expensive then buying a new truck.
