How much should I be paying?

    ONLY AN IDIOT WOULD HAUL FOR $1.20 A MILE! $1.50 IS LOWER THAN I WILL HAUL FOR...

    If you're willing to run for nothing that's your problem...But don't tell someone that it's absurd to not haul cheap freight!

    trying to be nice here.....:biggrin_25525: different equip, different rates ect... now if I haul your truck # 2.00 a mile unless I am under a contract for sole use...then if I am able to put a crate on the top deck for an extra 400.00 thats business 101 yes if you can keep it 10ft or less then a step would be fine! A lower price then the RGN@3.00 ... just using whole numbers for an example...

    Most steps and flat beds dont carry ramps heavy enough to support the loading of a semi truck... Tractors are just a tad heavier than 4 wheelers.

    I seriously cannot understand why people that respond to threads can't just answer a question simply or at least respond with some sort of assistance that stays within context.

    Anyway, an option is to fly down there and drive the truck back to you, contact OneWayTrailers.com and make the drive back home with a money making load that will at least break even. If the truck is not operational at the moment then you can also just send another truck down there and then use the same web site for a one-way step-deck trailer that is able to carry the truck back to you. At that point you don't have to worry about relying on other drivers and what they want to charge.

    Do what I did...

    I bought a '90 Pete in Memphis and took the City of New Orleans AMTRAK train to pick it up.

    I also bought a straight truck in Ohio and hitched a ride with my former employer's truck to Indy then took the Greyhound and a cab the rest of the way.

    Bought a Lincoln in Fort Lauderdale and flew down to get it... the dealer picked me up at the airport.

    Bought a a Freightshaker in Houston and had my driver drop me off and I bobtailed home with it.

    Well first off if it goes on a RGN then its a specialized trailer and that in itself justifies the $3 a mile rate. Now if it goes onto a step deck then you either need a dock at both ends or the carrier needs ramps. The ramps lead to a higher rate considering that it is their equipment that is also specialized and being used. Now onto the legnth of the truck and its weight distribution...bascially even thought the truck is light it will take up more than half the trailer so therefor it is considered a full load more times than not...this means higher rate. All in all the rates you were given are more than fair in todays economy if they include the fuel surcharge.

    As for the $1.20-1.50 rate...that is cheap and is only higher that the average dry van rates. If a person is moving freight for this rate under his own authority then they are only making pennies more than what they would be pulling loads for Schneider, Crete, Werner, and JB Hunt. Personally I do LTL reefer and don't haul for less than $2.50 with the whole load combined (usually its way over $3). Please don't take this the wrong way, but if you are willing to haul freight that cheap than fine...but don't expect others to do the same since we all have different perspectives and operating costs.

    This is the problem with trucking. A carrier more than anyone should know the costs of what it takes to move something, particularly if you want a RGN. Would be tough finding a step with heavy enough ramps to load w/o docks.

    However while this guy claims innocence, he has it posted on Central Dispatch for $.96 cpm. The bigger problem will be the idiot that actually moves it!

    A quote from earlier is dead on stating that because you move cheap freight you expect others to as well. Thinking you have been hanging around guys in Dearborn for far too long!

    I would definitely pick it up as a LTL for that rate. Just have to cut it up to consolidate it.

    No driver I am not an otr driver. But I also did say that I am a driver. But you have to realize that there's more than just fuel that will go into movin this. Maybe you do realize that. I just said I would'nt move it for less than that. Maybe someone else will but I wont. I am willing to be wrong on saying that $3/mile is to high. IF I am. Sorry.

    Maybe the economy in Michigan is that depressed that freight isn't paying that well........good luck with having to live in pennies a mile instead of dollars........

    I hauled cars as a company driver a few years ago.......I averaged $1.00 a loaded mile..........


    Operative term there is "Loaded". With deadhead......and there was a lot of it depending on where your load took you you might get lucky to actually see 50 cents a mile.


    My opinion.......you get what you pay for.......you don't really want it done correctly if you're only willing to pay bottom feeder prices.


    You've got yourself convinced that everybody else is willing to run for what you have settled for............
