I'm looking for a carrier that provides training so I can get straight to work. I posted another question and was told Schneider no longer has a school now. That's the one I was leaning towards.
I have a few questions about costs I'll be facing getting into all this.
I've read alot of the noob questions so now I guess its coming down to the dollars and cents of start up.... I don't expect an exact amount or even a complete list of what I'll be facing. I just need Guesstamations on both.
I'm unemployed and my funds a VERY limited, that's why I'm asking.
Thanks in advance,
Gypsy
How much $ to get what I need B4 I go out......

you might want to check out cetral refrigerated thats who i am leaning towards there is a very good thread on here called central refrigerated truck stop that has lots of good info on it. there is no money required up front, then its like a $25 a week for 1 year to a off the tuition. the school is about 2 weeks then when yo are placed with a trainer they pay 450 a week. you are with the trainer for bout 28 days.

Thank you
So ya think you may go with them? Thats Kewl! Do you have any idea how much a c/b, an everything card etc... is gonna add up to? I want to be prepared as much as possible for things I'll need out there.

i have seen decent cb's for around 30.00, from what some of the people i have talked with they say to plan n having about 300.00 to get you through the school period, and then you will have the month with the trainer to see what all you will need/wan to have on the truck with you. they are saying to plan on like 7 days worth of clothes to take and thatit is best to have a sleeping bag during training excuse the spelling errors my keyboard is sticking. yes my wife and i are planning on goig wit central, you will here good and bad about any company, you have just have to weed through it all and decide for yourself what works for you

You also need 100 bucks when you get there.
This is a new thing I guess, to help cover the cost of background checks ect.
I would have at least 500 dollars past that.
This will cover food in school, as well as the first week or so on the road, till you start getting paid.
A decent low end radio is a cobra 25. They cost maybe 80 bucks. Though you can sometimes find the 25s for less and the very good starter radio the Cobra 29 ltd for around 100.
This can wait till you are getting paid. Same with a truckers atlas which is around 12-16 depending on what size you opt for. I like the big oversize one that is 16. -

You do not need to buy a cb or tools before you get there! You wont need them until you get off of your trainers truck!
Just take whats on that list above and as much money as you can! Or a debit card! As stated in the other post you are going to be in someone elses truck and you will have limited room AND then there is the bus ride to where ever you are going! want to pay extra for extra luggage? Keep the costs down if you are short of cash!
Besides if you have limited funds after the training you can wait for a CB refrigerator, coffee pot, microwave and toys a little longer! And the Cobra 19 and 25 are the "starter" radios! The 29 is a great radio but then again a CB shop can tune and peak a 19 as easly as a 29! The only good a "BIG" radio is for is to make an arse out of your self going down the road or sitting in the truck stop! I've had only 1 "BIG" radio a Ranger many years ago but someone liked it better than I did! My Uniden PC76 that's 15 years (old tuned peaked and a bigger final now) no one wants to steal! In 30+ years of driving I've owned 6 CB's!
And for Gods sake do NOT fall for the fleece er Lease program! You are learning and even after getting off of your trainers truck you DO NOT KNOW ENOUGH to be trying to "run" a trucking business!
An everything card? Are you talking Cell Phone? Just get the $99 dollar everything plan WHEN YOU CAN AFFORD IT!
