The trailer roof is there just to keep the wind and weather out, not carry any weight.

They generally make sure they stay over the roof bows or the side wall. I've never seen a mechanic on the roof move in anything but a slow and controlled manner.

Sometimes when @bzinger crosses paths with me .. we sit up on his trailer roof in lawn chairs and drink beer & play cards in the back row at the Flying J..
When.its warm out like today we grill steaks on the trailer roof too but it take a couple cans of Pam cooking spray

Spread out perfectly evenly. Not one well fed trucker putting all of his weight in an area the size of a lawn chair.

No railings up there. I sure the hell have no desire to get on the roof of the trailer.

Been up on the top of an aluminum roof van and reefer walking all over them. Weighed about 230 at the time. It was not a problem.

Rough math, each inch of snow is about 700-1400 lbs on top of a 53' trailer, and that's distributed over the whole roof
    Snow Weight Calculator

It's hard to tell but the side walls are bowed out due to the snow weight. While the roof didn't collapse, the roof bows were all screwed up, the doors objected to being closed, and the thing leaked like a sieve. At the time I'd guess this was a two year old trailer.

So, yes, trailer roofs are subject to significant weight, but it's spread across an area and not moving. It's not comparable to Bubba climbing up to start a Red Neck Country Club. Secondly, just because it holds the weight doesn't mean the trailer doesn't get messed up.

When you have a turbo blow and black motor oil washes all over everything there's only one solution. Get on top of there with a mop bucket of diesel fuel and a lot of dawn dish soap. You gotta do what you gotta do.

It's so much safer to set up a lawn chair in the grass behind the trailer.
