How much weight for the wind?

I have been running 30 to 45K mainly in Wyoming the last few weeks. A lot of high 50-60 miles an hour winds on I-80. Been no problems for me. Just have to watch the slick roads more when it is windy as hell. Had one load that was 18k and it did fine as well.

 

Heard drive slower in wind - heard drive faster in wind. Me thinks better to drive slower in wind and me KNOWS that I will always drive slower in wind !! Not interested in being a You Tube sensation .

 

Wyoming is known for high winds, BUT the 40+ wind speeds don’t affect drivers much because of the hills covering I-80. It’s also possible that winds are traveling higher up the road. I used to track wind speeds 10-30 mph. After 20 mph, you can’t let go of the steering wheel because the wind will push your truck. Now, it also depends on the direction the wind is hitting your vehicle.

The driver was definitely empty or had a light load. If you notice, the driver tried turning a bit to the left, but made it worse. If there were no cars on the shoulder, he may have been able to prevent this by turning toward the direction of the trailer. This same technique is used when driving on ice and the trailer is moving a different direction. Hit the clutch and steer toward the direction of the trailer. Or, the driver should not have been driving in the first place.
